Live Stoner Chat My house project-bulletproof house

I've looked at many low cost, eco friendly, building techniques. Cordwood, Cob, Straw bale, etc. I use to own a scratch built log home I bought as a shell on land. I installed my own solar ( photovoltaic ) system and all the home wiring. The power company estimated $22,000 30,000 just to run powerlines to the home ( it was 3000 off the main road0. I spent $12,000 and never had another power bill. Good luck to you! :Sharing One:

First off thanks to everyone commenting im really glad to see others interested and or already done some of this!!!!!!!

Nice. I watched a lot of vids on how to do this and how warm they said it will stay in there. Lots of natural insulation!!
Post us some pics bro!!

yes sir you are right i forgot to add that in: self insulated :tiphat: thanks Guerrrilla!

Hello SGA,

This is gonna be great. Can't wait to see the pictures. Good luck, and if you need somthin' just ask.

Peace

Eek

Thanks EEK, i appreciate the luck, ill take any i can get:dance:
you wouldnt happen to be a roof building guru?? this is going to be the most difficult part of the build for me, so any advice here is helpful!!

(edit:two people totally beat me)Im glad I am first. That is actually pretty F-en awesome. As a person who has mastered the art of "Earth Bags," or in my case sand bags. I have two things to say 1 i admire the amount of work you have to do, because it is a lot. 2 That actually a fricking great idea I've seen a sand bag wall take a mortar, rocket, and a f-ton of bullets. I might steal your idea one day, I promise ill give you your citation for it

Steal away my friend i would love for you to!!!!
I know sand bags and earth-bags are fairly different i know you cant build the type of house with a sandbag due to that fact that it doesn't set up like the "super adobe" as does the earth mix ill be using does. ill be using road base 60/40 as the bag fill. what have you built with sandbags??anything beyond a wall?? Thanks for the comment great to have you along:smokeit:

Cool man.
Glad others see the issue being reliant on the grid.

Good luck with this project. Be lovely to see some pics!

pics coming monday i promise! :Sharing One:
thanks for the good luck.... i cant wait to be off the grid and non-reliant on other entities of big corps to survive!

I've been looking at property as well, with the intention of building an earth bag home to use as shelter for the first couole of years, before eventually building a proper cabin.

Are you pursuing approval / building permits to build your earthbag home, or are you simply building it on your property?

Also how many people will you have to assist with labor? I will be doing the majority of it myself, with a on a couple "party" efforts along the way. Daunting to say the least....hope you've been hitting the gym! Haha

I will just be building this on my own property out in the middle of the woods far far from civilization, i dont even have electrity poles or anything out there yet, that will be started in the next couple weeks.
It is GREAT that you are doing the same type of building, maybe you can start a thread here as well on it, i can see there is def a crowd interested in learning more!!! we are first building a 33' round house with a loft. 2 bedrooms 1 bath at 855sqft with an additional 260sqft loft area. once this is complete it will eventually become a guest house after we build our "true" earthbag dream house. upside of 1500-2000sqft.
I too plan on have a few work parties along the way but for the most part it will be my fiance and I with the occasional help from my brother but he is working on his at the same time so we will help each other as we can.
and as for the gym...oh yes sir for about 10yrs straight, actually used to be a personal trainer and GM of a large gym, but i know all this building and full body hard work is still gonna take a toll, i just have a good head start lol

Lot of hard work ahead of you. Much respect. Going green, and old school. Hope it works out. You've peaked my interest. I must learn more.

Thanks PREZ!! we can learn together so stick around:Sharing One:

Post pics as you can! I think we'd all love to see your progress! :peace:

pics are a' comin monday:dance2: come back and check em out

Awesome!
Two words; Rocket-Stove Mass-Heater. Well ok four words.

I am building on in my basement this fall.

yes sir're that is exactly what we will be using i have a few designs in mind but it will be there for sure :check: also we will not be running any septic but will instead have composting toilets and a gray water system.

yeah, good luck with your project. It sounds great, I am convinced that a major chunk of society simply can't cope with the concept of being mortgaged for 25 years (and all the related work/commitments). My best wishes

Thanks Tony, great to have you along. I hate the idea of being "imprisoned" by a bank for 25 yrs and this is my chance to avoid it so here we go!!

heck yea very nice POP, you got it done right at the first GO!!

i have the power company coming out in the next couple weeks to get some measurements and quote together for me to determine what cost im looking at and if it is in the crazy numbers of 20-30k then i too will def be looking to go straight solar right away.

What size system did you install for what size house?? I would greatly appreciate any info you have on this aspect that i may be able to take from and learn from your experiences.:coffee2:

Very cool sga :Sharing One:Much respect bro :tiphat: The wife and I are leaning towards an off grid lifestyle and we've been researching all kids of stuff. It's amazing what people are doing these days. :peace:

Thanks Robwars i apreciate it brother!!

i agree it seems like people are getting back to the "old" ways more and more now-a-days. We will be building our own natural house, growing our own food /hunting game for meat. I want to be as self reliant as i can muster. Ive gardened veggies with my father since i could walk and plan to incorporate High Brix (super nutrient dense food) gardening into all my veggies....ohh and as well as an entire orchard too lol

im here and watchign ... fellow eco builder here :D love these

Sweet, bro. I remember watching something about these earth bag houses... they seem like a really efficient option.

I'll gladly gather you up some information and pm you with it. I built my system in 2000, the price of panels has come down, and the power out put has gone up. Just remember, even with a well designed, reasonable cost system, you have to learn serious energy conservation, or you'll never be happy with solar!
