A method we use to do many years ago, was to use a pair of pliers to break the stem on the outside by gently crushing the branch. Then gently pull the branch down. It will not die off and the stress is minimal. As 95% of the Epidermis is in tact, the branch continues to grow.
It looks ugly and brutal but is low impact on the plant and works well for stealth or small cabinet grows. The flat side of the pliers(there 2, either you could use) should face towards where the branch will hang down. As you crush the sides only with pliers, the branch then can be easily pulled right down without breaking. Has the same look as a branch partly broken from a strong wind yet continues to grow. If you have room to grow sideways, this is an option to consider.
