DSCF0297.jpgDSCF0299.jpgDSCF0298.jpg Girls are getting a lot of these side shoots on the side branches starting real low .Should I remove some of the lower runt shoots or leave them?

I don't really have advice but mine did the same thing and seemingly without any good light, they are producing nice little 1 gram buds everywhere...I guess the decision is...does the energy used to produce these take away from energy that would otherwise be spent on stuff further up?...Cost/Benefit-style.

I guess I'm old school but I tend to just let the plant grow however it wants. Then again, I'm not that concerned with maximizing yield and getting the most weight from each plant. Like Trap said, I usually end up with a bunch of little popcorn buds that make for nice testers and additions to the trim jar. With my recent harvest it's been nice to go grab a couple of those little nugs each day while my larger buds are curing in jars. Plus I know that strong potency from the uncured lower buds means fantastic potency from the colas once I crack them open in a few weeks.

Im with Andy man.I too dont go for yield and train n all that.ill box n tuck to get the lowers a little more full but unless its a really small twig at the base of the stalk I never remove side branches of any length.ill open up a few leaves if possible to get her a little more light but that bout it.They make for AWESOME tester buds while yer stuff is dryin and curing up some.imo,Leave em be man,n get em a lil more light if ya can.."AFN smoke out""AFN smoke out""AFN smoke out" When I did that with my recent tangelos, they really took off and got almost as tall as the couple main colas.:smoke:

I don't know guys, I tend to disagree.. Those little branches with small buds forming in the shadows? Those take a lot of energy from the plant.. it takes energy to send water and nutes up that little stem, hold it vertical in the breeze, and to produce bud and leaf growth. If you snip them, all that extra energy can be used on the more primary bud sites. I'd much rather have 16-20 huge massive tops as opposed to 16-20 big tops and 16 popcorn sites. Tester nugs can be found low on the branches of the main stems. I always trim that low growth that sees no light, and I trim a lot of large fan leaves as well.

Not trying to argue guys! Just the way I do it... here try this :Sharing One:

Thanks guys, this usually happens on all my grows but this chemdog is putting out more of these than normal.I think i'll remove some on a few branches to see if it makes the top buds fill out more and leave the rest.Theses c dogs are still putting on height and are going to get pretty big.I'll show the results later on a new update.

I have heard this mentioned many times over the years and it sounds good - maybe it's 100% true. I haven't seen much in the way of empirical evidence, though. I just am unsure that a small branch with a .5 gram bud down low somehow magically turns into several grams being added to the upper buds if you remove it. Yes, there is some energy being applied to keeping that small branch and flower growing, but how does it exponentially multiply? Not to mention there is some level of stress applied to the plant when you cut branches off it. Interesting discussion either way & one of the most fun things about growing is coming up with your own techniques that work best for your circumstances.
