i got about 1000 watts of purple ina 5x5. it does pretty good if the strain is a heavy yeilder. i wanna quit playing around though. my 5x5 is about to become a 10x10 and i plan on running 2000 watts cob. i want two fixtures. i will build one first and the other a couple weeks /months later.
ive read over some diys. i havent seen any very recent using veros though. i was thinking about using these https://www.ebay.com/itm/Bridgelux-...rray-36V-80CRI-3500K-grow-light-/292015366630

how close to 150 watt could i push these? Should i buy 6-8? Also when picking out a driver all i need to make sure is it's 36v output right? any recommendations. any other sites i can find these veros cheaper? any reason not to use these? apart from the fixture , the vero29s, the drivers, what else do i need?

I would be curious regarding the driver you use to produce 150 W out of one semiconductor. And the heat sink. Keep me posted.

really im pretty clueless with these COBS. i began researching today but im already sold on the idea. i dont want to buy a prebuilt one. ill be doing some more research before pulling any triggers obviously. 150watt cob seems like less work to build, didnt think of the heat tbh. oh well. perhaps i should use the 80watt ? or would i be better off purchasing crees? if it wouldnt be too expensive i could probably put cpu fans on them. i want these cob lights yesterday!

If you want drive them hard and 80+W, then you should look into Vero 29 C version, or better Citizen 3618.

Instead of driving 1 COB at such a high wattage you'd be much better off driving 3 at 50 Watts each. You'll get much better results in the end by having your plants taking in light from many more sources and different angles as opposed to a smaller number of higher driven sources. Dont get too impatient and make a snap decision when buying whatever it is you end up with. That's for sure the biggest mistake Ive made as a grower. I started with the big ass 100-150 watt cfls. Ended up with 16 of them in a 8x6 area and results were unimpressive, so then I got on eBay and bought 6 El cheapo 300w leds. They vegged much better but flower production sucked, so I bought a couple 600w HPS so help them out. Getting good results now but have to use AC in there nonstop all but 4 months out of the year. That's pushing 3500 Watts of power consumption.. Needless to say power bills alone ran me over $4000 from May through September. Ive just recently started getting some quality components for a build myself. Cant afford it all at once so im buying pieces at a time. If I only had it all to do over again lol. Do a search for quantum panels or check out growmau5 video on Youtube for his quantum canopy DIY light.

Honestly. I'm not up to par on the cobs.
But... There is a few vuys here very well versed in lighting.
@BigSm0 would def be able to help you if he is around. Ill try to think of another tech head to help ya out here soon.

I switched from Cree 3070 to bridgelux vero29 gen7 because it did not cost as much, and handled more current. plus, i wanna be like growmau5 when i grow up. I am running 2.1 A at around 50 volts and producing 100 W out of one semiconductor. it’s a lot of freaking photons dude. there is a really good argument for running two devices instead of one device so you have more spread of the photons across the grow area. I am only growing micro greens in North Carolina due to the state laws here. my distance between the lights to the plant canopy is 10 inches, and I get good spread. If you go up to four or 5 feet for the other plant, then you should get more spread even if it’s less photons. The beam pattern is about 115°

Reading thru, I did the same way back... could have bought top notch equipment when you figure what I spent on the original stuff, & the wacked out electricity bill!

Woulda been cheaper to get the "right stuff" in the first place.
But that was pre-Internet days... each blindly looking for the best
way.

maybe give paypal credit a try. if you have barely decent credit you'd be surprised how much money they will loan you. 0% interest if paid in 6 months. and yeh i did the same shit too. with me i just bought 5 meizhi panel leds. they're cheap chinese but honestly far from burple. i have come very close to 1/g a watt with them. ill probably continue using them until i get myself a second or maybe third quantum board.
