Alright guys and gals, about to pull the trigger on my second and final cob order to upgrade my room to an all cob grow. 54"x60"

I have decided to go with 6 Citizen clu048 1818c4 gen 6 3000k 90cri 6x 133mm heatsinks, 6 ideal holders 6 arctic pads and 2 hlg-185h-c1050b

plan to wire 3 per driver for a total of around 67w per cob.

my question is, how does it sound and what would you change?

@BigSm0 can give you answer I bet.

sound like a great set to me... the only thing I might consider is going to a HLG-320 to save the money by buying the one driver but 2 drivers do look bad ass out the tent

This is a great plan. The only thing I would consider is the 3500k vs the 3000. I do think it’s personal preference and haven’t done enough 3k veg-flower runs to give any solid info on. I just see so much success with the 3500’s it’s hard to say no to.

@Slater the ideal holders have a max voltage of 250. 6 cobs would put him over. I have done it plenty of times and think the rating is very conservative but with higher voltage it’s best to play it safe. Plus you all know how I like smaller drivers. Just helps if you want to make changes in the future. The bigger it is the less options you have.

How u getting 67w off 1050ma @ 50v? I like the 240/1050 for 3 or 4 per driver @ 52w. Gotta use the 1.4a version to get close to 70w each.

good point, will make it easier to chop and change

Just by taking the projected wattage from the driver calculator and driving by the number of cobs I plan to run per driver? Just using it as a rough projection.

Plan to wire in series @ 3 per driver giving me 200w/3 =66.66666666?

I thought the same thing Kaahby but the Driver uses up some of the wattage and the newer version 6’s are a touch higher than 50v

I see that drive is capable of 95-190v. I think that's the total voltage possible and with 3 Citi 1818s per driver will pull more like 150v. Whatever the case, you will be all good to run two or three per 185, and be right in the Goldilox zone of 53-65w. I can personally vouche for the 1818s as being just terrific, I have a half dozen. And you get to be unique...they aren't as popular as the budget 1212s, and a LOT of the KAAAAHBHEADS around here are rocking the 1812s from Big. There is a reason the 3500Ks are the hard ones to find....because that's the magic spectrum for a KAAAHB to get it all done. I am in the camp as a firm believer that the ULTIMATE cob rig is a blend of mainly 3500K with some 2700K 1212s and a few 3000K thrown in for orangey flower lovin....and started under a blend of 5700/6500K 1212s. Obviously not the cheapest route, but the high K starters make for a FAST growing and super tight veg.....which is exactly what u want for LST and huge yields, and it also buys a little room under the 3500K and cuts down on turnaround time by a few weeks. The 2700/3000K most CERTAINLY can help pack the density on, and HPS is close to 2700K, which has never had an issue with tight buds. I'm ready to add some full blown far red and IR, just to see how deep this rabbit hole goes...lol. GWK, Stomper and Skywalker are coming. Soon. We are going to attempt to seed some GWK, as it is gone forever from Mephisto and one of the most exciting autos I've ever watched grow. Times 5. In my house right now I have 7 different kinds of weed and the GWK is HANDS DOWN the crowd favorite and it spoils people. Rock hard STICKY tennis balls that weigh 12 -14g each. It's fucking gorgeous. You will not be disappointed with KAAHBS.

Skip the Arctic pads 30 second of time saving, and use silver paste like CPUs and GPUs use. You wont ever have to remove the KAAAHB from its heatsink for the most part. Use proper T.I.M. (Thermal Interface Material) like brand name Arctic Silver goo. Comes in a little tube and a $15 tube will last forever. Just a DOT, less is more here. Too much will actually keep the heat from transfering. Good quality machined aluminum...like every annodized pinfin and machined heatsink I have seen thus far... only needs a smidgen and that is to make for a level surface at the microscopic level. Use masking tape to keep it from getting messy at all...put a tiny size pea dot on a CLU048....grab a trapezoid razor blade or a paint brush like my buddy swears by and make it uniform and THIN. Heat is the worst thing you can do to your new LEDs...get that heat off there proper. Also.....from personal experience, the Mechatronix heatsinks are STOOPID nice, and If I was gonna do it all over, I would get those.
