Lighting new GN Units

Is really compact good for a grow light? Im talking about reflector size. Will we have to run more of them due to more shadows because of a smaller unit? Im not trying to cause a slagging match on what does and doesnt work but From my own experience a hps in a big xxl reflector gets much better results than a little euro reflector. ( I know its led, but the same theory applies)

GN will have tested it of course but still, its a valid question. Isnt it?

When you see the light and the tec it uses you will see its invalid bro lol I do see your point with current style units, saying that my MS0004 fully Rebeled had much better coverage than a standard MS0006.

well i will say this much about there light im pretty sure they wont make a shittier light and the idea of it being more compact and more powerful is awesome\! so i for one am just gonna wait im in no hurry because ill get it when i get it my wifey will buy it for me as a birthday present whenever it comes so im in no rush, In due time they say eh?

and can i add that it being more compact will mean it can be used in smaller places and get better airflow in a smaller tent (i will be sticking it in a small ass tent and have a run with it , Cheers tang im with you on your thoughts!

A hps light throws out light in 360 degrees along the tube length, which means light that is travelling in a direction other than towards your plants needs to be redirected via reflection. A larger reflector will reflect more of this otherwise lost light that is not going towards your plants.
LED lights primary focus is often 120 degrees (2/3 more efficient directionaly) and with secondary lenses/reflector for each diode the can be concentrated to 90 degrees 60 degrees etc...
COB (Circuit on Board) intergrated arrays, which are made up of a matrix of micro smd (surface mounted diodes) LED's often use reflectors or dome shaped columnar focal lenses which focus the light to the required degrees, much the same as with single diodes with secondary lenses.

Can't wait to see whats in store with the new GN light, apparently gonna be a game changer.

The new Grownorthern unit is state of the art and uses some of the highest quality components available one of which are the Philips Rebel LEDs as we found the Rebels unmatched in are desired spectrum. The unit is very efficient and uses just 75w but the output and coverage are similar the are previous 180w light the MS0006 it's also smaller dimensionally than the MS0004. The unit will be quiet too as the technology we are using to cool the unit is virtually silent. We hope to release the unit by the end of this month and the retail will be £330 in VAT. I should also mention the unit is 220-240v only
I will email you as soon as we release the technical specs and set the launch day.

If you have any questions or feedback please get in touch,

lower power draw and virtually silent is music to my ears, as I mentioned earlier in this thread, I don't need more LED's to grow with, but less draw and even more stealthy just bumped it up a few notches in my thoughts , weather or not buy a couple/few of the new GN lights or not .
Silence is golden ...right?

220 OR 240V Does this mean they wont plug into reg 115 house current?

I just been checking that Nam and that would appear to be the case, unless you get a electrician to install a 240v outlet which by reading the advice online can workout expensive (no actual ball park figure was given)

Another answer was if you have a electric oven installed in you kitchen, it is possible to use the outlet at the back as a source of power if you remove the oven from the supply, but it was still stated a not 100% satisfactory as us power is @60Hz and Euro 220v/240v is at 50Hz.

Bear in mind these are electronic devices and need steady low spike power supplies otherwise the circuits may get messed up.

More research and reading need to be done to find if a suitable solution can be found, this is not something I looked into before as I live Europe

Yes Nammy,
you will NOT be able to plug them into a standard wall receptacle.

220/240 receptacles in the US come in several configurations, usually dependent on amperage draw.
Wait to see what plug they use before doing any wiring.
(PS it is fairly straightforward and should cost more than about $150 to have one installed professionally.)
