hello everyone, I am Vincent from Hong Kong, new registered user, cant say i am a new grower because i havent start my first grow yet, still gathering information on the net before doing it, i bought some white widow auto and Ak49 auto from Vision Seeds to start my first grow, will start in a week according to plan.

while i was smoking a joint i came up with a newbie question, please bare with me i am a beginner with almost none planting experience, so the question is, if i planted a germinated seed in a pot and it ended up fail to grow, and the grow medium stayed in the pot for a few days (so should be like 5,6 days at least including the days with the "dead" seed in the pot), can the medium be reuse for a new seed? or do i have to throw all the medium away and replace with new? thanks!

Welcome to AFN Vincent! :)

If the seed fails to sprout, you can use the medium again! Are you able to get soils or mediums that are tryed and tested for autos or will you be making do with whats available?

It's not too common for a seed to fail - especially if obtained from a reliable source / breeder / seedbank. The biggest mistake that lots of new growers make is to worry that it isn't going to pop - and then start looking for evidence. It can sometimes take up to 10 days for a seed to sprout - although in my experice usually 5 or 6 days. Try not to dig around for it - keep the soil moist but not soaked - don't water too much - 80ml for the first water will get it to germ, if you see nothing after 4 or five days and the medium is looking dry, try another 8ml where the seed was.

When you are ready - start a journal in new growers forums and people will help you get to hearvest!

All the best

Blue ^_^

Hello Vince,

you have got great advice from Blue there.

I could add that if you have not started yet, then the most fave method is the paper towel method for starting seeds. A search on AFN will put you right on that. Then it is transplanted into the pot of soil.

Whatever, welcome to AFN and enjoy your new hobby. We are here to help and encourage you every step of the way. Don't ever think that there is a question to silly to ask or a procedure to follow.

At your service pal, eP.

Hi Vince, welcome to AFN. looks like you already have some good advice from Blue and EP. Good luck and I look forward to seeing your journal

welcome vine, lets strap up were in for a long journey brotherin :bump:

Welcome to AFN dude.. this is the place to be for autos ;-) best of luck with gettin up and runnin.. as for germin seeds.. like penguin says.. paper towel then into soil don't touch the tap root and bingo.. I have 100% success rate using paper towels.. granted it's only been 10 seeds but ya can't argue with a 100% success rate none the less ;-)

thank you guys for the warm welcome! about the question i asked, i was just wondering, coz as i learnt from others not to re-use medium after each growth, just wonder if that applies to a "dead growth", thanks again!

It should be fine to re-use. eP.

Welcome, vincent! You can even use your medium after a grow, but certain steps will have to be followed for that process too. Happy growing and good luck!
