New Grower Newbie Growbox

Hi to all, i want to build my first growbox
I have this box and i am thinking to use the one part to grow my plants..



The dimensions is as i design in image, and i need your help - opinion for the best setup.

my seeds are Silver Haze #9.

I need from you to tell me about :

1) lighting
2) air
3) how many plants can i put in the box (1-2-3) whats the best?

or what ever you thing is important to start.
the only thing i am sure about is that i put wheels to the box :thumbs:

Alright bud, welcome to AFN. Nice size of box to start you off with.

Personally I'd go with a small HPS 70 -150 or there about. You can go CFL, but I like the HPS for density of bud (waits for the CFL peeps to gank me). Whatever you go for (CFL or HPS), you will need decent air exchange. For your size a 100mm fan and filter will be more than enough for going out, 2 passive 100mm holes covered in carbon matting will be enough for the inputs. 2 plants, in 6-8lt pots - I'm basing this on my old DR60 - or maybe 3 if you're keeping them small.

I've looked at your seeds, and if they are the sensi ones then you may have height issues as they have a lot of Sativa. I'd look at supercropping & possibly topping as they don't seem to be autos.


EDIT: It may be a bit of a plug as well, but the grow guide in my sig is based on a 60x60x120cm tent. Might be worth a look for you.

Can you suggest some " decent air exchange" and a filter for my case? (i forgot to mention that i must put the box in my bedroom and i want smell and noise at "minimum" level )

as for the lighting i still confused...

yes my seeds are the "sensi ones" do you thing that i must use the full height of the box ? i thing i can do that with some modification...

when it comes to lighting wether it be hps, cfl, led, you want to be at least 50 watts per square foot.......so your ruffly little under 6 sq feet wich = 300 watts

If you want smell at a minimum, then you definitely have to go for a decent CF & fan - it's the only way. I've tried lots of diy jobs, and nothing compares. I'm in the UK, so prices etc will be in £. I've also just chosen the shop with the best equipment, not necessarily best price. You will need to shop around.

For your CF & Fan I would recommend a RUCK fan and Rhino filter - pretty much the best in the UK. RUCK Fan & Rhino Pro Filter With Standard Ducting - 4 inch (285m3)

Here's a 150w HPS lights. This is the max I'd go for you size, maybe even less. To go less you're probably looking at breaking up street lights etc, although in the US I know there's a lot smaller kits. Depends where you are based.

I think you will need to use the full height of your box for those seeds (eventually anyway). Just take out the shelves, and have your lights on a pulley system. You will still probably need to supercrop etc, or you culd try them on 12/12 from the off to help with the height.

You will also need a 6" clip fan, or something similar for air flow inside your box. These can be gotten anywhere, but a lot of them are a bit rubbish after a few weeks. Shopping around for a decent one is worthwhile. If you have a grow shop near you, they may be worth a visit.

Noise is a different matter. I think my grow is fairly quiet, but I could not sleep in the same room. It's the fans that make all the racket, and for me especially the 6" clip fan. You could maybe have it turned off when the plants are in darkness, and on when in light. I also have a step-down transformer on my Carbon Filter, this helps make things a lot quieter. The 1.5 is mine.

I don't know about the math mate, but you'll never put 300w in there - Not without some serious extraction & cool tubes etc.

My old 60x60x140cm tent was rated at a 250w hps max, and your area is about half that size, so 150w would be close. My 60x60x140 is also 9.3sq ft, so about half that for you is 4.5-5sq ft. In my opinion you then need to take into account all the dead space, such as your pot area (with can be a ft in height) & above the lights etc. No light is needed in these areas, so taking into account another 1.5-2sq ft in dead space that leaves you with 3-4sq ft of actual growing space. The 150w is then a lot closer to the % of light needed.

This is how I see it anyway & makes sense to me. I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong.
