I find this kit very easy to use. I test runoff water at the beginning of flowering and usually only add a little phosphorous to stimulate flowering. the organic soil and tomato food I add before planting has enough time released nutes to take my photos thru 8 weeks of veg and 8 weeks of flowering so this is the only chemical fertilizer I use.organic sources of phosphorous take to long to break down and release nutes and a little extra phosphorous will stimulate flowering and bud development.this kit also test ph and I trust chemical test more than meters.this kit has chemical capsule that you add to the water and compare color change to a graph it is very easy to use and testing runoff water instead of adding soil and water is very easy and reliable. under feeding is easy to correct but over feeding causes permanent irreversible damage.some strains do not extract nutrient from soil well due to many generations of hydroponic growing but most do well in good organic soil and a good organic tomato fertilizer added to the soil before planting should provide enough time released food to last the entire grow.I use 2 ounces of this with 3 gallons of soil http://www.homedepot.com/p/Kellogg-4-lb-Organic-Tomato-and-Vegetable-Fertilizer-3000/202247320 it also contains a variety of beneficial fungus and bacteria which stimulates growth and help protect the plant.but most strains grow very well with good organic soil and little fertilizer. just be careful not to over water(wait until the top 2 inches of soil is dry) and don't overfeed and you will do fine.

Got it. The test kit is on my list of things to buy. That tomato food is not available at area Home Depots. Thanks

any organic fertilizer that contains beneficial fungal and microbes will work. the soil contains 0.3%nitrogen and the fertilizer only adds 0.025% nitrogen to it.the fungus and microbes help the plant absorb nutrient and protect the plant from disease and insects.so anything that contains these fungi and microbes will work.unless you buy on ebay or at a hydro shop options are limited.the nearest hydro shop is 50 miles away
