Why do they suggest not using it?

My choices (until it rains in my rain barrel) are very high TDS tap water with chloromine in it or RO.

You're over thinking this a little. There is nothing wrong with using tap water, or rain water, and honestly I doubt if Kind has any legitimate science to support there recommendation against RO water.

All of our grandmother's watered flowers with tap water for 50 years and they were all probably better gardeners than we are.

My TDS tap water is near 400 ppm and loved with chloromine.
I didn't think that would be healthy for the root michoriza.

RO water requires some kind of additive each time you water. So never serve just plain RO water.

It's ammonia/chlorine. Chloromine.
It doesn't dissipate like chlorine does.

You'll need a filter for chloramine, RO should be fine if you run a re-mineralizer. Probably due to RO neutrality. Maybe it messes with their pH readings?

If your just using the 400 Tds water without adding nutrients to it it will be just fine
The 400 tads comes into play when adding nutrients to the water
As far as choromine
Unless one gets its water directly from treatment plant, ( I.e. The treatment plant is next door) there is no fear
It disapats as it does what it's supposed to do
And that's to keep the pipes sanitary
If one can drink the water from ones tap and not suffer loss of their gut bacteria then so can their plants.
I feel it's more of a choice than a must

You could run it through a ro system then add calmag. It should be the same as tap minus some of the heavy metals and chloramine. I have a ro system and used to be super concerned about chloramine until I saw my buddies grow. He's using a dwc system and doesn't do shit to his water. Straight tap (300ish ppm)plus nutes and his garden looks good. Has that changed me from using the ro......nope. But at least I know now it's not really effecting much not using or using ro water in my location.
