I am going to be starting a DWC grow with the Flora Trio. Some things I want thinking of adding.

CaliMagic
HydroGuard
Silica (looking for recommendations here)
Something for early root growth (also looking for recommendations here)

I am trying to keep it simple to start, but is there anything I am missing?

Also, I am looking at using the schedule on growweedeay.com as a place to start. I'd love to know what other folks are doing with this same nutes line.

That's pretty much exactly what I've been using.
I ditched the dutchmaster for hydroguard and picked up some silica for this run. The results have been good so far.

I use silica blast in the res,and I also use it as a foliar spray 2-3 times a week.

If you're using reverse osmosis, then CaliMagic i feel is a must.

As for root development, I usually start with rapid start.

Also as for schedule, I go off of around an 1/8 to a 1/4 (pending on size) of what the nute companies recommend per gallon and work my way up from there, ultimately having her tell me what she needs along the way..

On the silica, don't add it directly along with your nutes. Dilute it with water, maybe 10 ml in a half gallon, pH it, then add it slowly over a couple of hours. Too much silica too fast can cause your other nutrients to drop out of solution and become unavailable to the plant.

Also decide if you're going to run organic or sterile. Sterile is easier and what I recommend to new hydro growers. If you go that route, then I'd suggest using UC Roots as your sterilizing agent in place of Hydroguard.

I hadn't realized that was an option. Does using the organic add more complexity?

Organic is more complicated. The elements of organic nutrients are more complex and must be broken down in order for the plant to utilize them. So fungi must be added to the mix to accomplish that. Microbial teas are usually used. They can be purchased or made yourself. If you don't keep them in balance with the nutrients you can end up with root issues and poor plant performance. Chemical nutrients are already broken down and readily available to the plant. No teas are needed, just a sterilizing agent. Sterile is easier to maintain, has less potential for problems and is easier for beginners to learn. Some people will claim that organics are better, better taste, burns better. Don't believe it. The plant doesn't know or care where the nutrients came from, as long as it's getting what it needs. Those type results are usually from overfeeding and not cleansing them properly at the end. Once you do a few grows and get used to this style growing, then you can explore organics if you want. Get the basics down first.

Yeah, I think that makes the most sense, thanks!

Glad I could help. Get yourself some UC Roots from Cultured Solutions. Use it as your sterilizing agent and your roots will stay nice and white the whole grow.

What's your water source?

Was planning on tap that is allowed to dechlorinate. Have pretty soft water hear that isn't highly treated.

You'll need to test it and see what the pH and ppm are. Depending on the ppm you may not even need cal/mag, or at least not much. I have to use RO. My tap is over 250 ppm, way to high for successful growing.

What are you using for ppm meter?
