Citizen has a bunch of cobs. The 1825 is one of their best but even with my 100's of cobs I don't own any due to price. 5% efficiency or what ever it works out to be will take along time to repay itself considering its twice the price. I primarily run 1812's but the 1818 is again a little better as well.
I wish there was some sort of calculator you could punch in your space and specs and it would pop out which cob was the best. Unfortunately we sort of go off of comments like your above where it seems like price doesn't matter. When people come in with a 10 dollar budget they get the 1212 recommendation. It's a bitch to make recommendations with other people's money. Then you have efficiency nuts who would sell their only vehicle to buy More efficient cobs to gain that extra 2%. If you can swing them go for the best, the space is small so it won't be to much and the more you put in the more you get out.

I think I've run into a problem with the 1825's and probably the 1818's. The bjb holders for them are rated at 3A@150V so I believe I can only use 2 of these chips per driver. Am I correct? So I'm going back to keeping it simple and go with a lower voltage chip. Maybe some 1812 chip's. Anyhow-Thanks for all the help. Pipes
I've got the poor man's 1212 cobs and although not built yet I'm chuffed as punch to get them. I've got the money to get better but just don't want to for my space. Spending lots or spending little is both good. We all find our own specifications levels and need help with them... me personally I'm waiting for the parts to come in. Getting a delivery a day now! Oh I wish ide bought a kit now! Lol. Still loving the infuriating journey just don't know yet about the frame I want! Problems problems!
The ideal holders are rated for 250v the 1812,1818 and 1825 are all close in voltage. The 1212 is the only one rated for 36v from cobkits.
While the cobs may become outdated it is good to keep parts cost in check. I'm with you on the price, that's why I decided on 1812. I like the higher voltage but in the end they all perform the same just at different wattages if that makes sense. They use the same leds.
For frame material check out 80/20 extrusion. It is pricey but will never become outdated.
I need to check out that frame more. I'm tempted to get a fabricator to weld a simple frame. I know it's not hard to bolt or rivit a frame I'm just wanting something nice to hang! Smooth corners.. or shopping trolly section would be perfect and strap those sinks down down and hard!
I'm with you. A nice quality light is a lot more than some duct taped pile of wires and some scrap. Check the DIY skills are priceless thread. I'm doing a super veg light.
Well-its over now. I just placed an order with cob kits and went with the 1818's and ideal holders. I'll have to get the driver else where. I like the way you used that extrusion. I've used stuff like it for a router table I made for fence and bit port adjustments. I've been checking out your builds. Very nice work!! And thanks for your help. Pipes
