Grow Room Open Source Mephisto Sour Crack

Hi Neko, my seeds are only a few months old. I didn't condition my rockwool cubes. I wondering if that might be part of the problem. The PH could have been way off. Thanks
I have always just used plain tap water, no ph,plain tap.on my rock wool cubes, never had a problem With germ,,Newer, only bad Batch of seeds,,
But where i live we can drink our ground water it,s super clean, so maybe that have something to do with it,,
Just my 2 cents

Thanks Ksj, I used distilled water to germ. I am racking my brain to try to figure out where I went wrong this time. I did the same thing I did last time with my Mephisto seeds. I dropped a seed into each of my four soaked rockwool cubes. The seeds cracked and the seedlings are unfurling from their coats but three of them are still submerged in the cubes and the one that has shown itself is about a 1/4" tall and it's leaves are still unopened after several days. This germination has not gone nearly as well as the first two Mephisto seeds I grew. Let's see if the next four seeds perform any better.

I like the paper towel method then i can tjeck to see whats going on, if seed crack e.t.c.

2 plates, paper towel in between not soaking wet,not moist, but in between,, Leave it in room temp or warmer.
2-3 days later i see tep root 1/4 inch +-
put it in the rockwool cube. put cube under a cfl bed lamp.. any light source will work,,
when tap root come thru the bottom of the cube i put in final container (grow bucket)
The hole proces takes about 5-7 days

Newer failed.. Only bad batch of seeds

Ksj, First Mephisto grow I put them in paper towel and then carefully transferred them to the cubes and it worked spectacularly. The four plants I am having trouble with I dropped straight into rockwool and soaked. Then I left them in a germ tray with a heat mat. The four new seeds are in papertowel in a ziplock bag. Thanks for the advice. I'll keep my fingers crossed.

Sounds all perfect to me,, karma sent to your seeds

my experience is also that the paper towel method works well. I pre-soak the seeds for 8-12 hours then into a paper towel, then in a ziplock. I wrap that up in a towel and leave it on my dresser. I've never used added heat. The towel, folded into several layers keeps the temp more consistent, like insulation, IMO that’s more important than the temps. I've germed fine at 66F. I do try for 70 though.

Ive had bad seeds (bag seed) that just didnt want to hatch, but Ive used the 2 plates and a paper towel, with a coffee cup warmer on low under the small plate with great success. I remember I was germing some without, and they were cracking pretty slow. I added the heat, and BAM. Tap roots over night it seemed.

Im definitely still a noob, but Im a big believe in adding a small amount of consistent heat is good. Ill probably buy a small heating mat from my local garden store.

Maybe you just had a bad batch of seeds. Seems to me like you didnt really do anything wrong.

I think Ill just watch and give support lol since Ive never dived into hydro.:dunno::tiphat::karma Cloud:

Thanks Ksj, pop & Neko. I'll let you know how it goes. I may end up with 8 plants when all is said and done. I appreciate the encouragement.

I already have tails on all of my new seeds. The longest is about 2mm. I've soaked the new cubes for over 24 hrs. PHed them and they are awaiting their seeds. I am hesitant to toss the seeds in the cubes. I may give it till tomorrow morning. The one seed that's up from the first batch has it's first set of real leaves. It definitely looks stunted like that mini AK I grew last time. Curious
