Hello all,I am attempting to reuse my pc grow case for another run. To maximize space I'd like to skip the CFL's this time. It runs too hot with more than three CFL's despite a 120mm on exhaust and one on intake, also have one 80mm moving air around above those ins & outs. Case is approx. 16"Hx18"Lx8"W but I'm using approx 12" length as the other components are stored in the rest. I have an Apollo 75w (actual 50w) mini ufo but haven't used it for more than a little clone vegging up until now. Has anyone experience with this particular light and it's limitations or if someone can recommended a LED for the size constraints it would be greatly appreciated.

Hey! Looks like this one might fit. I'm using the 130 watt model but that one because it is round and will not fit your rig. I am getting good results. Low heat. This one is 180 watts but consumes 90 watts.. So in reality it's 90 watts. 36- 5 watt leds - 6 spectrum including
  • LED Spectrum: 460nm(2pcs),470nm(2pcs),3500K(2pcs),7500K(2pcs),660nm(13pcs),630nm(15pcs)
  • Dimension: 9.2" x 8.4" x 2.4"(234x214x60mm)

Hi Kushmush, I don't have experience with UFOs. Will a UFO actually fit into your case?

Thanks for your replies gentlemen, Bigolnoob: I appreciate the link and that looks like a solid light but I think it's a shy too big for my box and will not ship to my area. Eight inches width really limits the options.Jackmc: You're absolutely right, a standard ufo would not fit, the one I have is miniature. They sell on amazon and just under 7 inches diameter. It's not as bright as the all blue mini ufo I am using for my mother plants, so I'm wondering if it's worth using solo (side note: the all blue mini ufo is a great light from seller "growmayer" on ebay...I highly recommend it! three mums on 53w consumption and the plants seem to love it).Perhaps I'll test a few different options and post my results. Thanks again guys for contributing! Can anyone comment on cold cathode lights? Is that a legitimate option?

I'd never heard of Cold Cathode lights but just read about them on Wikipedia. They are essentially florescent/neon type lights. If they pump out enough lumens/PAR in the correct spectrum they look like a perfect solution for a computer case. pop22 is a computer/tech guy you might check with him.

prolly best to build an led so it can be up to your specs re shape and efficiency
those chinese cobs are usually about the same efficiency ad cfl meaning watt for watt it will put off the same heat

Cold cathodes don't work for growing. They do not produce any different spectrums of light sadly
