Is the ph of my run off important if I'm watering with a nutrient solution with a ph of 6.8-7.0 should my run off be the same? I've been getting a run off of around 5.5-5.8ish is this going to be a problem?
Here is the rough calculation (i took this from one of GoAuto6's posts):
If your runoff pH is higher than your starting pH, use this equation to determine your soil pH:*
Soil pH = Runoff pH + Difference
If your runoff pH is lower than your starting pH, us this equation:
Soil pH = Runoff pH - Difference.
For example, say your the starting pH of your solution before it goes in is 6.5 and the pH of your runoff is 7.0. The difference is +0.5, so using the above equation:
Soil pH = 7.0 + 0.5*
Soil pH = 7.5
If your starting pH is 6.5 and your runoff is 6.0, your difference is -0.5 and using the above equation:
Soil pH = 6.0 - 0.5
Soil pH = 5.5
So, for you the the pH is lower meaning your soil pH is actually:
The debate goes on and on with this subject. I myself don't worry about runoff PH and just make sure the in watering is PH correct. Ihave personally talked to several reps from different nute companies and all of them said not to worry about runoff PH just make sure your water going in is correct.
