I have a 4 week old girl in MG soil. My water ph is 6.0 right out of the tap, after I add the nuets it shoots up to 8.0, I add ph down to the test tube but I never see a change in the ph. Can you tell me what I'm doing wrong?
Hi Mr S, thanks for the reply. I'm on a very tight budget and cannot afford dif soil, I bought mg b4 I read how bad it was. She seems to be growing ok, Jan25 she is 5 wks, 9" tall, 13" width, dont know the strain. Maybe thats where I screwing up, I add ph down to the test tube, and I prolly should be adding it to the water?well first and foremost i would never reccomend using mg soil...it has time release nutrients in the soil wich releses nurients over time. that with the nutrients your allready using and chances sre youre gonna burn your plants ....imo i would do a transplant into new soil and flush it while its eairly. itll save you from a lot of problems later on....but with the p.h issues idk thats a astumper ...question are you adding the p.h down to the test tube or the actual water....id try using something diffrent for my p.h down and test it again...hope it helpz
You have to add the ph down to your water and mix it.Then take a sample and test it.
Yeah namvet25, I finally figured that out, I dont know what I was thinking adding ph up into vial, of course yoou would add it to your water, too many psychedelics back in the day I guess. You have to add the ph down to your water and mix it.Then take a sample and test it.
I'm using FloraNova Grow & Bloom. The ph tester I'm using is General Hydroponics products with the crappy eye droper and vial method of testing. stoking suggested trying the Dollar Store for some affordable soil so I'm going to check on that. What nutes are you using that are raising your Ph. IME, most nutes lower it.
And what kind of Ph tester do you have?
I also agree on the MG soil. If it's working right now and that's all ya got, go with it.
Yeah a vial is what I use, I think ph meters are a little pricey for me right now but thanks for the advice. If your using a vial, toss the thing and get a true meter. Be sure to calibrate it. Any grow shop will gladly show you how.
A vial i the worst thing in the world for an inexperienced grower to use. Btw, no way are you putting any ph down in test tube and it is at 8.0. Sorry not happening. Read the bottle label again, I bet its ph up you added.
As for the MG soil, I would rather grow in stones and dust from my driveway. I know your on a tight budget, but take a trip to the dollar store. They have a non time release fert that is fairly decent for our our use. Not the best but ar 3.99 a bag, you will suffer less issues.
Ps blue is up, orange down, in case label is missing.
Thanks for your input too. I might try your flushing method because I'm nervous about replanting in some better soil. I have been using 1/4 strength on the nutes. She is starting her 5th week, 9" tall, 13" leaf spread, other than this nute hickup I think she's doing pretty well. Also, HOW are you testing your ph?
Soil meter, or water tester? IF a water tester, are you testing the run off and the in going water as well, then adjusting?I had MG soil my first go around, give it two full flushes (3x pot container size) three days apart. Then go low (1/4 strength) on your nutrients until after you have used that soil for two months. Then you can gradually increase your nutrients.
my two cents.
From past experience it's not the soil in Miracle Grow that's bad stuff ... it's the time release nutes most MG soil has in it that autos don't like ...
