Hello everyone - making my first posting here with a quick question to the more experienced among us.

So, as is generally known, with photos it is routine to sprout a few seeds and identify the best phenotype among them and then perpetuate the "line" through cloning.

With autos, I am wondering if some analogous procedure exists. For instance, will seeds derived from a superior plant (colloidal silver method) be more likely to produce offspring that take after their "parent/s", or do all seeds harbor the full genetic sweep of a given strain making every seed a bit of a crap shoot? In other words, is it possible to refine the line from generation to generation?

Thanks!

Crossing 2 different Auto strains and pheno hunting (Male/Female)
first generation will be fairly uniform 50/50 split the second or F2 generation will yield the most variation and this is where you will find the desired traits you are looking for and from there take the line further to F6+ and things become very uniform and consistent

Auto's of the same strain results will be much faster generation wise to find a stable consistent result

Thats quite the question, but I will take a stab at it..

"will seeds derived from a superior plant (colloidal silver method) be more likely to produce offspring that take after their "parent/s"- All seeds will take after their parents. To what percent, or which traits it takes on, and from who, we don't know. Using cs or sts to reverse a plant will give you the best chance at getting a similar plant from seed. But those seeds will still have to be hunted through..

"do all seeds harbor the full genetic sweep of a given strain making every seed a bit of a crapshoot?"- No two seeds will ever be the same. regardless if they are f1s, s1, bx1s, ibl ect. Seeds are not identical. Every one is unique. So it is always a crappy shoot with seeds.. But again, S1s or reversed seeds give you the best odds of getting a similar plant from seed.

""is it possible to refine the line from generation to generation?"- Definitely. Not many auto breeders do it, at least not enough. Its called selective breeding. Where you plant a bunch of seeds, pick the best two females, reverse one, pollinate the other. Take those new seeds (f1) and do the same thing to get f2s.. You keep going until you have all the traits you like, and none, or few of the traits you don't. Mephisto and Sweet Seeds come to mind as they often mention which generation their strains are on. F4 and f5 is common for both those breeders.

Hope that helps a little!

Thanks for the great info nbberguy and Prophetico! I'm pretty new to all of this, and in the early stages of wrapping my head around some basic questions, so your input is hugely appreciated.

Along the same question, I bread gorilla glue x Time warp, I m growing that cross and rejecting the runts ( or smaller phenom type) so I assume that would be a F1. I found a nice male, and I'm cs a nice girl. The seeds of this generation would be I assume S1 reg and S1 feminised. In the mix I have real gg that I'm going to cs just so I have more gg seed. I think I know what I'm doing but just not sure of the names of the end result. To most people unless they sturdy this stuff wouldn't matter nor understand the various breading levels.
