Hello AFN,

I am currently having an issue with my plant (nothing new), and it seems like the pistils on the very top of the plants are starting to turn brown. I might think they are getting burned from the lights (CFLs), since the lights are about 1-2 inches (2.5-5 cm) away from the top of the plant. I kinda violated the plant, to see if any other pistils were brown, but it is only browning at the top.

I apologise if the images came out blurry. I used a smart phone camera, and my hands shake quite a bit.

Am I correct that the lights were too close to the plant? I moved the light anyways (raised it about 3 more inches, since she was getting a bit taller.

Place your hand, palm down, at the top of the plant and hold it there for 30 seconds. If the light feels too warm on the back of your hand, it's too hot for the plant.

Cfl's "to the touch temp" is about 110f to 130f on average.
Incandescent's "to the touch temp" is about 400f
So that should give you any idea.
When I run florescent lights of any type, I run them very close also.
I always keep a small thermometer at the same level of the top buds, adjust the light so the temp never goes above 85 at top bud level.
The only other light burn I have had was from running leds to close. (the hand test doesn't work with them)

To be honest I really don't see any burned pistols.Your girls have just started to show main bud formation.Even with cfls one to two inches is to close. Just follow Muddys advice and you'll be ok.

Thanks a bunch guys. I've tried the hand method, and it felt warm at 1 to 2 inches away with the fan blowing through, and hot to the touch(obviously). So I figured it was safe, then the next day it started turning a bit more brown. I also have a thermometer hanging between the lights and top of plant as well.

Hey Namvet25, are you saying that it is going to the flowering stage?

I've also been having another problem. I'll refrain from making a new post, and just add it to this reply.
The bottom leaves are starting to turn yellow, and the brown spots are getting bigger. I have been giving her cal/mag every watering, because from my previous thread, it was a cal/mag deficiency. I pH it at 6.5 and the runoff is at usually around 6.7.

She will be fed tomorrow, since the feeding schedule is set at every week, but should I just feed her today instead?

Those bottom leaves are just dying off due to age.
Clip them off.
Pictures of the whole plant would help.
If it is just those bottom leaves yellowing, you are fine.
But if anything like that is going on higher up in the canopy we need pics.

Also that yellowing could be due to "wet feet".
Are you letting the soil dry out a bit between feedings?

Ah, thank you Gtron2.
I apologize for not showing the full plant. I took a picture, then I rotated the plant and took another, and repeated (I hope that makes sense).
Now that you mention it. The leaves just above that are starting to turn yellow with brown spots on them.

I have been doing my usual watering; weighing the pot if it's dry, then sticking my finger in about an inch to see if it's really dry, then check to see if the plant is starting to wilt a little bit; and if all of them are there, then I give her some water until there is a little bit of runoff. Typically I usually water her every 24-28 hours. That's when it seems like the dirt is very dry.

Should I not water her today? Cause the last time I've watered her, was yesterday (23April2014) a bit before noon.

That sounds a bit too much watering!

If you have some Epsom salts push a half tablespoon in with pH water on your next feed and try to water every 2-3 days.. also you could have air pockets in your soil where your water could be storing up within the pot. Raise your pot of the ground and then you will have a better idea with the run off

How big is the container? What nutes are you giving other than the cal/mag? Have you started veg nutes?

Why did you use a see through pot? The roots should not see light through the pot.I didn't realize your girls were that small so I would still feed them veg nutes with nitrogen and hold off the flower nutes for another ten to fourteen days. They are just starting to flower but they are still in veg mode also. They look like there drooping a little so either they are dry or they are to wet one or the other.
