Hi Koolaid, I can try to help. Welcome to AFN!

I don't know of a pictorial step by step on topping, but it sounds like a good idea. There are a lot of experts here who have tried it all. Your question about NPK can get fairly complex. Are you planning on using soil, coco, or hydro?

Im using foxfarm soil mixed with a mineral that maximizes root growth and worm castings

Im not a newbie to growing. My first grow was in 2007. Second was 2011. Third times a charm right?

Welcome Kool one !

cloning an Auto is not on. They have a fixed life span and that is that. Photo's Yes. Auto's No. No poll needed.

If this is a first grow, keep it simple, leave the fim/topping for the future. Get used to the Auto plant first. As for NPK, just use a veg based feed until they start to flower then switch to a Bloom feed. You don't wanna get to technical if you are a newbie. Trust me, keep it simple and learn as you grow.

And do have fun........................eP.

I understand autos are on a fixed lifespan but if i did my research rigt if you do clone them you can get a few extra buds.

advanced techniques you are talking about, but it can be done. The earlier you do it the better. I would try to clone whatever you top off and try for yourself. I would love to see that, have you though about a grow journal?

There are ways of extending the plants lifespan, like intentional stunting and larger pots. None of this is recommended if you need a good harvest.

The time and effort will never make up for it, just start 2 seeds instead !

I disagree. Theres not much extra effort or time. Plus a couple extra buds is a couple of hundred dollars

Im starting off with 7 gallon grow bags sinces autos hate being transplanted. And yea i will have a grow journal for the first time this season. In my state im only allowed to have 12 plants per patient but im my own right now. 12 plants in a 4*4*8 grow tent with 1000 watt full spectrum led

Like I said, it's not a guarantee when you mess with cloning autos that they will do what you want. Best to try one or two if you have the space and see what they do. I hope it works out for you! Sounds like a fun adventure. I am always running out of space, and like @Slowmo I would rather just plant two seeds. If I were to try it, I would restrict the clones root area in an attempt to get it to flower faster, maybe put it n a one gallon pot or smaller. Maybe even a solo cup.
