Hi
Looking at the portable vapes out there currently, so far the Magic Flight Launch Box, the n02, and the Davinci... The thing that is confusing me is Im seeing them for a HELLUVA a lot cheaper on ebay? from us sellers? Same product? Knock offs? Here is a link to one (if consider spam please remove link)
http://www.ebay.com/itm/2013-VERSIO...402?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item43bcd0f7f2
Than I see the n02 for like $88 and the MFLB for $75, at those prices I might just buy two, as I REALLY love the idea of the smallness of the MFLB (probably could away with smoking that in the theatre) Im use to using only a Volcano... The butane powered vapes dont interest me, so what would you guys recommend? Thoughts?
Thanks
Yoda

Let's begin with one of the most popular portable vape: Magic Flight Launch Box

Why is this unit so popular? Because it's one of the least expensive on the market and because it's overall a good quality product.

The MFLB is a very small unit (about the size of a BIC lighter), made in the USA, and it's a very fast working vape: when you press-in the battery, you can see vapor forming within 5 seconds. Theres a little bit of a learning curve at first before you really dial in the best method of using it for the results you want, but if you have a little patience I think youll find its a decent performer.

Made out of maple wood, this unit is not a hard hitter. The MFLB is ideal for someone who likes to take a few draws at the time, spread out over a longer period. l would recommend the MFLB to those who are looking to vape a small amount at the time, or as a second/third vape but not your main vaping unit.

PROS: virtually indestructible, lifetime warranty, fast working, great vapor flavor, cheap, stealthy, great workmanship.

CONS: batteries only last 15-20 hits, small chamber, screen not replaceable, not a hitter, vapor can get hot, few lose bits that you need to carry (glass straw, batteries), top plexiglass window gets easily scratched, when battery gets low is not as effective.
Solo by Arizer

The Solo by Arizer, the same Canadian brand that makes the Extreme Q vaporizer, is a very good unit and one of the few portable ones with temperature control.

A little bit on the bulky side, this unit I usually recommend it to those who are looking for a very efficient vape but for some reason don't want to purchase a table top vaporizer. The unit is very well built, feels solid, and is powered by Li-Ion rechargeable batteries (same as your cellphone).

For a portable unit, the Solo produces excellent vapor: rich, dense, smooth and with all the flavors of the herb you are vaporizingwhich is what it really matter for a vaporizer, right?

The only negative bit about the Solo is that it's hard to draw: Arizer has eliminated the typical stainless steel screen that usually lines the bowl and made instead 4 small holes at the base of the glass draw stem. When you draw you encounter quite a bit of resistance and to some it may be uncomfortable.

PROS: awesome vapor quality, very effective, glass path, temperature control, recharges quickly, very well built and solid, minimum maintenance, long battery life, aromatherapy dish included.

CONS: expensive, bulky, glass draw stem is an extra part you need to carry, cannot vaporize while unit is charging, hard to draw.
WISPR 2 by Oglesby & Butler

Made by the Irish company behind the groundbreaking Iolite vaporizer, the WISPR 2 is one of the latest units released on the portable vape market.

Unlike the two previous portable vaporizers in this thread --which are battery operated-- the WISPR 2 is butane operated and that gives you total freedom: you can be out in the desert for days and still be able to vaporize. The unit is very light, has a cool retro and reasonably compact design, and it's ready for action within 20 seconds.

There are a number of things that I like in the WISPR 2: the unit produces a surprising amount of visible vapor for its size, packing the chamber is easy and quick, the flexible silicon draw stem has a cooling tip and the mouthpiece folds down so that you don't have to carry extra bits and pieces.

I recommend this unit to those who want total freedom of movement and from battery chargers and to those with active lifestyles.

PROS: no batteries, good vapor quality, can turn it into any direction and always works, discreet and compact, fast, effective, easy to clean.

CONS: no temperature control, no glass path, pricey.
IOLITE Classic by Oglesby & Butler

The IOLITE is made by the same Irish company that makes the WISPR 2 mentioned above and same as with the WISPR, the IOLITE runs on butane which is useful to those who are not happy to deal with batteries and rechargers or have outdoorsy lifestyle.

This unit heats up your bud at 190C which is a very good overall temperature no matter the strain you are vaping.
Easy to carry, lightweight (81 grams), the IOLITE gets the job done quickly and efficiently. Vapor quality produced by this unit is not the highest but I would certainly say it's good. Vapor is slightly hot, especially after few draws, and if you find that annoying you can purchase the longer draw stems that are easy to swap.

The catalytic conversion happens in an isolated chamber within the vaporizer so that butane can heat the unit but as its used it expels the butane as harmless water suspension through the escape ports located on the port of the unit, which is why there will be a faint butane smell when you ignite the unit.

PROS: good value for money, ultra portable, no batteries, discreet, good vapor quality.

CONS: draw stem not foldable, no butane indicator to see how much is left, gets little hot on the outside.

Yea I was waiting as well, but who knows when it coming and for double the price hard time justifying it.. So I got the original Da Vinci...the way it was explained to me was the ascent was more for at a club or party or something and the da Vinci is more of a rugged unit. I really would LOVE to get my hands on the Ascent as well, in the mean time I will patiently wait on my first portable! Really curious how it performs... Grabbed the Da Vinci at a great price from an authorized dealer. If you buy a Da Vinci off eBay they will not honor the warranty. I was surprised as I was able to grab the unit from an authorized dealer for not much more than getting one on eBay.
I will do a full review on the Da Vinci when I get in my hands.

I've been looking into vapes too - I don't think i'll ever stop smoking joints but think it would be a good idea to mix it up because of health reasons.

I'm leaning towards the MFLB because of the price and convenience - the other contender for me was the Atmos Raw - I've heard its not a true vape and there's some slight combustion which burns the weed a little. I don't think this would bother me too much as it's got to be better than smoking it with a whole load of burning tobacco and i would really like to breath a cloud and maybe feel something in my lungs too.

It's a tough choice, but i think i'll end up getting a MFLB

Blue,if you are a seasoned joint smoker, the mflb may come in a little puny hit wise.
i have tried it and im personally glad i didnt buy it,having said that, the warranty is stoner proof.a user had one swopped out after his dog chewed it,they will even replaced if broken in modifying for performance and artistic beauty!...just no malicious damage
but in saying that,im not happy with my EQ hits either, maybe im too used to the eciggy type vapes and the plumes of vapor they produce.

I was a hardcore joint smoker but I bought my first vape a few months ago,the arizer solo. Its helped me cut back massively on smoking, but I will always love a joint :D It takes a bit of getting used to but once your in the groove the hits are nice.i like having a play with the temps depending on the weed to get lighter or heavier hits. It also doesn't leave the house stinking of weed and is nice to take around the house or out in the garden and get ripped.

Thanks McBud :)

I've been smoking joints for twenty years plus, I used a vape which i think was pretty low spec about a decade ago - it looked like a lava lamp with a metal plate in the middle and a tube coming out. I wasn't impressed as it was just airy and a bit fragrant.

I am looking for a plume to come out when i breath, and not with concentrates or bho - just herbs - do you guys think this is achievable with a portable vape?
That's kind of why i was liking the look of the Atmos pen, after reading a review on it not being a "true vape" because of combustion
