I think your plants look good and I know for a fact many growers use T5's and get great results with them. In fact, a lot of commercial operations use T5's somewhere along the line in their setups in many cases. The intensity of T5s is just not there. They absolutely fall short when it comes to penetration of the light and the PAR watts per watt of electricity used are miniscule. Sure, they keep the plant alive, but they just will never touch a real dedicated growlight. I would much rather use a Blurple Mars Hydro "300w" (I HATE THESE LIES) that is $50 on Amazon than a T5. The LEDs in those lights are pretty low end, and the drivers are weak. A popular upgrade to these is a COB conversion, and when done right with the right parts will put the old light to shame. Or use a good branded HPS light. Once again, steer clear of the crapfest of Chinese junk on eBay. My friend bought a 600w HPS/MH rig with everything including two bulbs for $175. Hood, digital ballast, Mogul socket cord, and on of each bulb. Now mind u this is SUPPOSED to be a 600w HID light. The ballast pulled about 900w from the wall and the bulbs produced in the neighborhood of what a 400w HPS looks like. Ohh, and it sucked. Did one grow with that boat anchor and started doing research on COBs. Add to this that the bulb life on a HPS is fairly short, and it's super expensive. Good 600w lights are $500. Get COBs. Period. They are cheaper than anything, outperform everything, and the whole world is gonna start switching to LEDs and COBs for everything. It's already happening. Incandescent, halogen, CFL....their days are numbered. You can't beat em. Ridiculous flexibility with color spectrum, cheap, reliable, extremely efficient, they last forever, for horticulture use, the PAR wattage is off the charts. This is why. I'm all up for a debate, but there is nothing to debate. COBs destroy T5s for budding plants. And no offense to the OP, but if this is your first grow, how can u be arguing that something is good when u are new to the sport? Cheers guys....buy ONE badass COB. I will even help u order the right parts if u want. I guarantee that u will have a tent full of KAAHBS after u see how crazy one is at 52w or so.

well I think some loose the sight that the T5 tubes are a far outdated technology at this point.they work,and work well but certainly not to a higher end LED or COB set. I used to grow with T5 all the time and loved it but a little smaller and the heat can be troublesome in the summer. but all in all they are easy and EXCELLENT for seedlings. I still prefer T5 for seedling and young clones or similar.

I still got a real nice high end T5. It's awesome. It's 110w 4' with two bulbs. It's on my 90 gallon aquarium...lol. Honestly, I have been so completely blown away by the Gen6 3500k Citizen 1818s that T5s are old news. I too have successfully used them back in the day for main lighting for my 18/6 photo room. They were great for mother plants and real gentle on clones. Never used a COB with clones as we grow strictly autos now...but I can attest to T5s for that. I'm sure they still work great. For that. But they just don't have the horsepower to make big tight colas. Period. COBs ≥ High end LEDs > CMH > HPS > Low end LEDs > CFL > T5 > T12 > Halogen > Incandescent > Flashlight > Candle for flowering cannabis plants indoor.

Honestly I was going to run t5s originally because I wanted to do a really discrete grow and not spend a lot of money.

In came the autocobs from @BigSm0

I love every part of them so far and I'm almost done with my first run. My next run will look a lot better cause I'll have more clones in the room but the lights are very worth it. I would recommend them to anyone.

Note: I used to grow with 2000w hps. If you want something with no heat, noise, and the versatility to lower each light per plant or hang it wherever in your tent...autocobs are the answer.

I think t5’s are around 18% efficient. This means you are pumping in a lot of wattage for a smal return. Actually my first real grow was with t5’s, all the colors, purple, blue, red and yellow. I did well with them but the cost to operate vs the yield was not there. Even for supplemental or cloning there are plenty of newer tech available that will cost less to operate.
