its not recommended due to the short life of autos and prunning causes stress and will effect your overall yield but that said there are several people who do it with sucess
Just starting to flower at the moment. As I use cfls the lower branches don't seem to bud as well as the upper part, so I was thinking to cut away the lower branches and the plant will focus its energy producing larger upper buds and cola. But I would like to keep an open mind and hear from someone who has done it and can say its worth doing.
I routinely top when they are about 6 inches. I remove the minimum of material to force the plant to branch into two main stems. I do this because so many plants like to stick up a single cola that grows so tall I can't keep the lights from it. In my book, wide plants with lots of cola beat tall single cola plants.
I strongly advise against topping for any reason!, any reason at all , the time it lose's catching up? cut's your yeilds down! ...If you tie them dowm you get all kinds of heads.......

What strains are you doing this to?
Do you have pics?
It's generally recommended not to top, prune, fim or any of that cutting to Autoflowering Cannabis. Due to their shorter veg period, there isn't enough time for it to recover from the stress. Photos you can just keep in veg stage until it recovers.
Some Auto strains have been known to handle it 'OK'. But, I can't even think of any right off hand.
General rule of thumb: Don't cut on your Auto plants.
