Live Stoner Chat Question about Over Watering.

Hello,

Recently, I saw locals growing cannabis in river mud .. now being from nearby city, I know that this riverbed never runs dry through out the year. Its always wet .. .then how come these locals are growing so much weed in it ? How come over watering is not an issue in the nature, but is an issue when growing in a pot ?

Technically there is no such thing as over watering.
If it was dwc would not work as well as it does. The plant absorbs oxygen through the roots.
What we call overwatering is the symptoms of the roots not being able to absorb enough oxygen.
So when i pot is constantly wet its stopping a fresh supply of oxygen getting through the media.

I can only imagine that either the moving water supply of a river keeps the water oxygenated.
Or the roots go deeper into a dryer more oxygen rich layer of soil below the river bed.

Just my theory dude... i could be talking complete crap

Over watering in a pot causes the soil to become oversaturated, it become thick and heavy and basically rear naked chokes those precious roots, brief periods of over saturation is fine but if it persists for days.. your plant can only hold its breath so long. In nature this isn’t the case various reasons 1. The soil isnt actually oversaturated 2. Oversaturation dissipates before causing harm 3,the roots are tapped into running water, because it’s not stagnant it holds enough oxygen for your plants to breath, 4. Soil type some soil hold water better than others so plants might survive wetter condition depending on soil type. just a few explanations
