Just had a whole house water softener installed and a drinking spout that makes basically alkaline water. Is it ok to use either of these for DWC? Which is better choice? I know the alkaline will need to be ph balanced for sure but wasn't sure if I'd have issues with either of these for watering.

Yeah I've been MIA for a bit but hoping to get back here more often in the next few weeks when I start growing again...

The water softener will give elevated Sodium levels not recommended for growing...

That's what I figured. Still have outdoor hose bib that is not softened so maybe I'll have to use that...or use the drinking water option.

You could try both outside and drinking outlets and see if any issues.
Good luck..

Worth a shot. Maybe do a test with all 3...keep all other variables the same - soil, seed, etc - and see what happens.

Look into using potassium chloride in your water softener. Some greenhouses use it without problems.

Just an additive to put in water? I'll check it out.
Does that help negate the salt used by the softening system?
