Grow Mediums Quick question on top feeding

So how do they get nutes if you have plain water in res and only top dress for nutes? He doesnt have his nutes mixed in soil from what I read. He is wanting to sprinkle nutes on top of soil and not water top.
I was just saying how you could do organic and just use water in the rez. I commented directly to him that I thought top feeding was not a good idea after turning on the rez.

If you use BioTabs you just mix your soil per the instructions and the only thing you might have to add is one more biotab during flowering. And you just stick it in the soil a few inches, easy. They could mix up a LOS or Super Soil, there are plenty of good recipes around, and grow with just water that way also.

Nice wasn't trying to argue or anything. Just was wondering if it would really work. Seems like i need to try some of those biotabs.

I didn’t take it that way. This is what this great forum is for, hashing out (pun intended) the best damned ways to grow these ladies. I loved the BioTabs and would still be using them if they were not so difficult to get here. Well at least they used to be difficult, I haven’t ordered for awhile. I did just win a starter set on another site, so might get to use them again this spring.

@Biotabs F69 @Hippy_BiotabsF70 if you guys are around, how is it going shipping to the states these days?

The guys at bio tabs are top feeding in week 5.....

But a strict dose of a pint too each, pot...

I’ve got a good super soil ready, sorry I didn’t mention this,

It contains a host of things.

Thank you everyone for the inputs,

That’s just a one time feeding and their aren’t a bunch of salts in the soil to disturb because you have been feeding pure water from the reservoir. Another thing to mention with BioTabs is that once the girls go into flower, it’s not a bad idea to add a third tab to the pots.

I can see ypu like bio tabs, any particular reasons ?

Please listen to @Screwauger and do not top feed. Even the manufacturer warns against it for the reasons he stated. I have been growing in autopots for over two years, with both the 8.5 & 15 liter pots, and have never top fed any of mine after putting them on the reservoir.

If you want to amend with something that might grow in the rez, turn off the reservoir and allow your trays to empty and add it directly to the tray. When your plants are going strong they can empty the tray in an hour or two. This is how I add Recharge or other bacteria. I mix it up and add 500ml at a time directly to the trays allowing for it to be sucked up into your growing medium. If it doesn’t dissolve well, then I would strain it before adding to a tray. I haven’t used any beneficials that I couldn’t dissolve enough to use directly in the trays. Although, I have never tried bat guano so YMMV.

Thank you Hemi & Screwauger
:thanks: :):)

I was always afraid of screwing up the wicking action or something else, so I will take your advice. Wanting to add any extras I should turn off the res, wait until plants wick up all the liquid, then fill the trays with my recharge or my kelp powder (which is highly disolvable (?) in water) and let the plants drink it up. Then turn res back on.

Ran a full grow with them and they just worked per instructions. Only thing I had to do was put clean water in the reservoir and pay the electric bill, what could be simpler? Biggest problem with BioTabs is their availability in the US.

That’s sounds great. Have you tried any other brands of nutes or super mixes ... too give a comparison.

Becuse I see bio tabs as a very good product indeed, I might try there bio tabs alongside an emended soil... and drop all there feeds by half. And see what magic I create... :yoinks:

Just curious.... they always advise too place bio tabs in the corners of the pots, I wonder how thease tabs break down and pass down too the roots without any water. maybe it’s the humidity ?. But that raises the question of simply top dressing with dry ferts and covering it with soil, will questionably be the same method.... Probably using dry ferts that ain’t compressed as a bio tabs would give a better chance.
