Hey guys just quick bit of info please for my next grow, what’s the best way to germinate your seed? And do u put straight into your main big pot, or start of in a smaller pot and then transfer at a later stage?

What I’ve done in the past is glass of water method, but most recently used the paper towel method, once the seed has sprouted I’ve moved to a small pot (hand held pot) and once the seed has sprouted and I can see the first set of jagged cannabis leafs,I’ve then carefully loosened the soil and carefully transported the spout and little roots to its main pot, where it will be growing in for the duration of its grow.

I’m growing in normal multi purpose compost u get from your local garden Center.

Just wanted to no if it’s best when the seed has sprouted to put in the main big pot? Or put into a smaller pot to get a root system, before transferring to the main big pot? (If so like this, how long u leave in the small pot before moving to the main big pot, as I explained previous, as soon as I see the jaggered cannabis leaf I’ve moved them to the main big pots, so only been in the little pots about 5-7 days before I moved them)?

I’ve been reading a few of the journals on here and not really sure which is best, any info be great cheers

I soak the seeds and then straight to their final home... it's more accident prevention for me... not removing / handling seedlings in transplant is one less place for me to screw something up, or drop a small pot, etc.

By how you explain it it sounds you remove the soil from around the roots before transplanting?
In that case why the small pot . The big pot would be the same thing without the shock of a transplant like that. So I would go str8 to the big pot.

I grow in coco, and soak my seedlings for 24 to 36 hours and then put it directly into my final pot. I don't bother with paper towels I've had too many tap Roots grow into the paper towel and get damaged that way.

If you're going to repot, it's best to let your roots mostly fill your smaller container so that you can slide the entire root ball out intact. Then you can gently break up the roots in the very bottom planting your final pot and remove a couple of the lower fan leaves. The idea is the trauma to the roots is actually pruning so you prune a little above ground also. Pruning usually has the effect of causing an increase in hormones and an increase in plant growth. So transplanting if done correctly can actually give your plant a little boost.

Whats worked for me
Soak seeds in 1/2 hydrogen peroxide and 1/2 warm water overnight, i go ahead and wrap in tissue for the soak.
Drain, leave moist tissue ( I generally use Tupperware ) with seeds in tubberware.
Put in a drawer for 18-24 hours. Get about a 98-99% germination rate.
My current grow, all 6 popped roots within 32 hours
Moved to peat seed starter, i don't use Rockwool.
At this point, i have done both.. moved to a cup or directly to pot. In a cup yoi probably have more control over its environment as a seedling.

Ok guys cheers for info and advice, I always thought when the seed sprouted u had to put in a smaller pot so the seed takes the soil and then onto the bigger pots, where the roots can then expand to get a nice big plant.

But going by the majority, pot straight into my (12litre) pots when they have sprouted.

And cheers @jingo after this grow I will be going down the coco route so will keep in mind cheers

One way to germinate and this is how i do it.....I put seed in shot glass on top of warming pad for about 12 hours. Then I transfer the seed to the paper towel method on warming pad. Don't soak the paper towel. You want the seed to be able to reach for moisture. Once they crack and the tap root has popped out, then I water the pot to some run off. When I grew in soil I waited 5-6 hours before planting. Coco I put it in fairly quickly after watering to some run off. I use a clean Phillips head screw driver to make my seed hole, somewhere in the neighborhood 1/2". Widen the top a little bit so you can get that tap root down in there a little easier. I use tweezers (if husk is still on) to very gently to drop in the seed/taproot. Cover up and wait.

Those newer to growing, I cannot suggest putting a non germed seed in. The only reason I say that, is I've seen far far too many people digging up the seeds, getting too handsy because it isn't fast enough to match their lack of patience.

Understand fully, I actually put 5 white widow auto seeds on a paper towel, 5 days ago, 3 days ago 3 sprouted, (do u no what thinking on it, it wasn’t ph’d water, which I’m
Like wtf did I not ph the water), but I sprinkled water on the paper towel where the 5 seeds was sat, and only 3 have sprouted, why haven’t the other 2?, how do I make them spout, what other methods are their?, the 3 are now in coco coir and perlite, and have all spouted happy days, but want the other 2 to sprout
