i will be switching to 600w hps but wanted to try cfl first, any recommendations peeps???
cheers

I use a 250w cfl in my 120x120 tent and my girl loves it. When I open up the zipper all the leaves are lifted up just like when she was outside. It's good on power consumption too which keeps the Mrs happy

Well if your an established grower and are either upgrading or trying a new style of lighting,Id say go a little larger but that is my opinion only.Ive done small grows under 125W CFL's and they can be fun.one plant light imo.but Id say get atleast a 200W or better.Unless ya just wanna slap together a disk shaped ring of small cfl bulbs which is also very effective.say , about 6-8 small cfl's and fans..yup fun stuff.

you can go to lowes or someplace similar and get yourself a pack of small cfl bulbs for cheap and you can mix or stay one spectrum of light .say with flower if your getting one type. But thats cheap and very effective too.mount them on a self made disk something thats not sensitive to heat and thats a great way to keep costs down and still give ya some excellent ways to do your Seedling and have a grow too..

How many plants are you trying to start? For the 1st week of a plant a 23w cool white bulb, should do you just fine for a couple of small plants.

I got to be honest here, when I started out i used CFL's thought it would be cheaper in the end I had 8 90 watt cfl from lowes..So

8 X 13=104
6 sockets at 2$= 12$
2 shop light at 8$=16$

A grand total of 132$

I also added more 28 watt bulbs as suplimental?

so for an extra 25$ you get 1000's of lumins more...my 2 cents?

So on top of the CFL cost, I still ended up with the hps/mh and saved no money, in fact you could say I paid twice as much as could have..If I would of started out just spending the intial 160$ instead of "saving" money buying CFL's..

I'd go straight to LED personally. Save energy and reduce heat. Good luck.

For a 160$ LED you are going to end up with a tiny foot print compared to the 600HPS GA6 is recommending. Getting something to rival a 600w in LED is more of a 300-400$ investment.
