All that I have
I do not change out the water in my res. When it gets low I will add new mix. I always start off a res with ph 5.8. I do not touch the res after that. I just ph 5.8 the new batch and add to it.
I am using AN Bloom A&B , the self balancing , and Cal/mg. Temps are 68 - 69 F.

I am having some issues with a few plants. Lock out seems to be coming into play.

How do you all do it? Res management that is ;)

Hey @Nosias

I realize I am a beginner and having my own issues but I am also using the AN Ph Perfect nutes both grow and bloom phases. In fact, I am mimicking Hansbricks (man I hope all is well with him). Part of what I realized yesterday with input from folks here and on another forum was, that I was monkeying up the ph perfect technology by adding ph down.

I was actually following the specific directions for for the growteck pro silicate. I added the silicate to my batch, ph's it down to 5.5-6.5 and agitated well (else the silicate does not disperse properly). Then I would add my base nutes then additives then test the pH again and add ph down to get it to 5.8 or 6.0.

Honestly, I was amazed. I did a test yesterday.
I made up two 4 gallon batches one mid flower one late flower.
So basically one was 1.5ml/l the other 2ml/l of sensi bloom a and b.
I started with my cal mag then my sensi blooms then my hydroguard, terpinator, big bud/overdrive and bud candy.
My tap starts at 7.3ish. I use tap water.
After mixing the batches BAM 5.9ph

From my research today, that is supposed to hold that buffered ph zone for 7-10 days.

I understand the pH perfect Nutes do 2 things
  1. They buffer your mix pH down (in my case to 5.9) AND
  2. They buffer the medium you’re growing in allowing it to accept (and use) pH values within a wider range
I am groing along side two others using the ph perfect nutes and they are not ph'ing anything. Precharged the coco with tap water, feed with AN nutes and flush with tap water. No ph up or down and their gardens are just killing it. They say they will never use a diff nute nor ph again.

Bottom Line: I believe I have caused my lockouts in my other plants by adding ph down to my initial res mix.

@Screwauger
Thank you for the input. I add all additives first, then I mix in the A/B. So A/B are the last to go in. My tap water is RO but the PH is 7.5 ish. I thought I needed to lower the PH to start. The most I mix at one time is 12 Liters, or 3.17 gal and the PH does not drop much if any.
I do us PH down
I'll see what others say. Thanks so much

Ah yes, I am quite eager to hear from other also. I have struggled and the above is obviously theoretical. Clearly the green crack didn't mind and I was adjusting ph in the res anytime I saw it creep above 6.1.

Gonna try just leaving it alone and see what happens for a period.

Staying tuned and good luck!! @Nosias

Just a thought, I've run across many nute lines that require a certain order they have to be added. Did a dwc grow years ago that gave me issues... turned out I was mixing them in the wrong order... how that works is a mystery to me, but when I did it correctly, issues dissapeared...
I jumped back to soil soon after, figure I look better with dirt under my nails.

Thanks for your input. I read from AN that you add non-base nutes then the A&B. So that is what I do. I may think that the PH Down could be the problem. I just must need to trust. I may not do the PH Down again.
You look good as a dog. ;)

Does AN recommend up or down before? Or after? I pH at the very end of the mix. My water pH is 7.4, buy the time I've added the nutes, I'm in the high 6's then pH down to my target.

I do the same. Never had problems.
