DIY Res Chiller for RDWC DIY

Still waiting on delivery of some Uniseals. Will do a pre-test of the unit tomorrow using waste res water so as to not to waste water during the testing phase.

I started my RDWC with Uniseals, but I found that 1. they are a pain to get set, 2 I had leaks. I have now moved on to spin tight bulkheads. they work great for my 3" piping. I have pics on my system in my signature.

Unlseals work great but you MUST get the edges of the hole smooth or you'll cut the seal. I've yet to have a Uniseal leak. You also must make sure you cut the proper size opening. Anbd anything but genuine Uniseal brand seals will leak.

I just realized I never updated this!!!

I tested the DIY res chiller. I filled a 23 gallon tote with water. I chilled the water down to 69 F using ice bottles. My reasoning was if you run this long enough to cool water from room temp in the grow room, with temps of 75-80F you will turn your radiator into a block of ice! That will make it harder to contro9l the rs temp and should be avoided. Cooling the res down to 65F from 69F took 4 minutes. With the res insulated, the chiller comes on about 2 times a day for 4-5 minutes each time. So even though it has a high amperage draw, the duration makes this very economical to use. I estimate $8.00 per month to run this.

They were genuine but i found out that you need to cut your pipe at 90 degree angle, I did not do that, LOL. In doing so I put small crack's in the base of 2 of my buckets. But the spin tight bulk heads work great atm.
