hey guys , my plants 1 week to go i reckon , some tri's are amber so i decided to take a few nugs from the lower half of plant even though ive noticed theres more amber tri's on the big buds at upper half of plant , anyway my question is : does stressin a plant by taking some buds of it make the plant produce more thc as it would in the wild as it would think its getting attacked by birds n other animals ? just a thought , aslo heard cold water in dwc near end of flush also produces more thc , dunno if thats true but i do believe the plant will produce more resin when trying to protect itself in the wilds , dunno bout autos in a tent though ?

Not too sure that sort of stress precipitates more resin production. The most effective method to increase thc percentage in your grow, is to start with high thc genetics, not trying to be a dick either.

On the subject of stressing a plant to produce more resin activity:

I think UV stress, and temperature stress in certain genetics, may promote higher levels of trichomes to be thrown out. It is my understanding plants produce trichomes in part, to refract UVA and UVB rays accross the plant for a few reasons. Depending upon the gentics and growing conditions, a plant can utilize every bit of radiation or be damaged by too much.

Think Hindu Kush area of the world; short growing season, high altitude, very windy, 36* N the equator.
-Short, dark, resin covered plants able finish life quickly fair better than plants lacking those traits.

That is why gentics play the biggest role. Considering a big portion of modern strains are hybrids with afgan/hindu region genetics, playing to natural triggers can be beneficial to resin production.

What is interesting is if you look at from-the-equator-sativas, they can produce extreme amounts of thc for different conditions and reasons than an indica up in some afgan mountain range. The Sativa needs tons of clear crystals to act as a sort of sunblock, for the plants flowers, and potentially developing seeds. Heavy UV rays are thrown out by that equatorial sun. While the indica in Afgan may produce an extreme amount of resin to collect as much UV as possible, and be dark purple to collect as much light as it can on some cliff or in some valley. It only has a few months to finish life and beat the weather. Pretty cool stuff once you start exploring"I Need Tech Help"

That makes a lot of sence when you think about it

I have noticed a correlation between stress and resin production, an it has been noted by others as well. It's hard to have any concrete data, however. It's one of those things that is very difficult to quantify. Different genetics may also have varied reactions to stress.

That being said, I recently exposed a couple northern light autos from nirvana to what may be considered alot of stress. Constant temperatures in the high 50s / low 60s. An intense, and occasionslly varied light schedule. Large amounts of exfoliation, and lollipopping, removing entire branches. I had to cut them early due to more "important" plants waiting in line, for lack of a better word. They are drying as we speak, but the amount of resin on them is staggering. It's a mini tragedy that I didn't allow them to go any longer. I also saw increased resin in my critical jacks that experienced more stress, during my first grow.

So I am on the side of the fence, sofar, that believes stress will increase frosty goodness. That being said, it is a very fine line that must be walked... Excess stress will stunt growth, and negatively effect yield. Also it should be noted that by improving your growing conditions and techniques you will also noticed increased resin production on your flowers. So this is by no means me advocating domestic abuse on your girls to get what you want out of them haha.:yoinks:

Would not advise this advice at all. Autoflowers are somewhat delicate, purposely stressing them to increase potency is not advisable because of the potential things that could go wrong. I know you clearly stated that you're not advocating abuse on the plants, but some people can mis-read things (like I've done many many times.) and end up stressing their AF's and killing them/causing them to hermie etc..

I wasn't advising anybody, simply noting a correlation. Even the plants that I intentionally neglected and abused yielded 100g+ Dry weight each, and they got the chop earlier than the seed bank reccomended. It's hard for me to understand how anybody can kill these plants, unless they did none of their homework. They're not orchids, you almost have to try to kill them and sometimes they still won't die lol

would you not be losing thc levels choppin earlier m8 , or u looking at the tris with scope ?

Yeah Im sure I lost out on weight and potencyt, but I had other plants that needed the space so it's something I had to do reluctantly. They were a week behind schedule from my Dr. Frankenstein experiments.

I always use a scope though. Mostly cloudy, with a few clear trichs still left and a few amber just started popping up. I like to cut them a little earlier for the heady / uplifting type of smoke.

I let some white widow go a long time once with a good amount of amber and it was way too heavy for my liking. Two joints and I woke up 12 hours later naked on a beanbag chair covered in Doritos with my dick in my hand feeling like I got raped by the sandman :roflcry:
