This is the top cola of a tall NL x BB. Stigmas not all colored--yet, she is ripe. Just about 90 days. Male flower popped up today = ripe and time to harvest.

Woah thanks for posting this..I'll use it as a guide to know when mine is ready :)

Looks yummy. What is a stigma on a plant?

Those thingies. Funny!

The hairs. Those diabolical female parts. They come in sets of two. They are the pollen receptors. One to make seed and one to produce seed nutrients.

There is some interchange by way of confusion (read in Rosenthal's book--note the book was "certified stoner edition" full of innocent typos and terminology errors--they were stoned proof readers--lol). Stigmas are sometimes incorrectly referred to as pistils. Stigmas originate from the pistil which is the individual flower on a bud and are part of the reproductive system.. So, buds are just a group of flowers in a calyx. One flower = one pistil, and groups of two attached stigmas around a calyx (leaves surrounding bud) = bud.

Feel free to correct me if I am off base. Did spend some time a few days ago boning up on the anatomy.

Even below article uses then interchangeably--a few times.

This is a good overview: http://cannabis.com/growing/sexing-flower-biology.html

Wow! She's looking tasty. When you gonna chop?

Woah so if I understand you correctly I should be referring to the white thingies that turn orange as stigmas?

Wow 90 days.. You've got some serious patience! I just chopped at 80 days.. I couldn't take it anymore :) Looks great!

Yes, it was time. Put her in 24 hour dark breezy space. I have a new method to deal with our heat and 2% RH.

Easy trim without all the fans. Still good amount of high leaf ratio. Tight buds and aromatic after dry. Tight relatively speaking cause of environment here. Low buds go to hash bin. So mostly all ripe.

The smaller NL x BB was riper and highly aromatic.

Cheers

Sunny--I got lucky and had a few new plants ready to vap---otherwise...

Needed to get it old enough to help me get some zzz.

Tokey--Think that is right hairs = stigmas. Yet, often, incorrectly referred to as pistils. We see pistils upon pre-flowering then the stigmas.

If not someone will straighten me out---lol.

What do we do with the fan leaves? I chopped off all of mine last night. Do these go in the hash bin also? Also, do I want to dry the shake and popcorn buds? I just have this brown bag of scraps that I throw all my trimmings into.

Sunny. Some people save all the leaves for a full spectrum oil.

I pick big fan leaves a day before harvest. I don't save them. Makes it less taxing when cut and trim.

And will just pull off low immature buds for the hash bin. Yes, good idea to dry for a few days--the popcorn and shake/bud leaves can then be place in a jar (or a brown paper sack) in the freezer. Use it to make hash. Some use to make oil.
