That's pretty normal lowdown, I ran fabric pots for years and over time the salts just built up on the edge of the fabric. What I do is after each grow, soak 'em in some super hot water and try to dissolve out some of that crap so it's less likely to leach back in. I'm not gutsy enough to run mine in the washing machine (I think the mrs would kill me,) but if you have a lot of 'em that could be an option too (just watch the agitator so it doesn't shred the fabric, depending on what type of washing machine.)

I wash (extra rinse) my smart pots after every run with All Free and Clear. I wash them with old towels and the such. Not much mess if you empty pot well first.

Nothing you can really do about it during the grow. Salts build up and get stuck to whatever they come in contact with until they get dissolved. I'm getting it even on my plastic pots. Hope that helps.

I take a towel soaked with warm water and leech the sides every now and again during the grow.

Give the pots a good wiping after a watering. Seems to reduce the amount significantly.

I know a guy who just had the same issue and he started getting salt build up in his plants and they got sick he flushed with I believe it was quarter strength nutes for a few days the salt build up went away on the smartpots and plants healed up nicely I would keep an eye on the plants if you notice a problem maybe start there hope this helps. positive vibes your way
