Hello everyone, I am posting this thread separate from the Sativa Testers Thread to show some of you my "Crate Training" . Let's see how this goes on these Sativa Testers. I started 2 of each. I will be using 1 of the 8 as my GOTY entry as well. So, let's get into the basics. I use Straight up Coco, nothing added. Char coir is my brand.

I use small pots, 3 Quart. This requires a lot of attention, but I prefer frequent feeding and small pots for numerous reasons. So here is how I Crate Train . It is just a form of LST, using a crate as my anchoring points. I use a 2 gal pot and place a layer of Hydroton to raise the 3 Quart pot up a tad to make it level with the crate. I use Hydroton as it acts like a filter and raises it up perfectly to train. Here are a few pictures to get an idea of what I am doing. The first plant is Mango Smile. I just did this a few minutes ago, it took only a few minutes to do. I have 7 more. But not all will be done today. Sour Orange Haze is not ready. Pink Panama [HASHTAG]#1[/HASHTAG] is going to need some major bondage. I will add more pics as I work tonight. Thanks for following along. Peace slowandeasy.
Here is an empty 2 gal pot, in the crate with run off tray.

Add some Hydroton to level the smaller pot out.

All Tied up...

This plant will be anchored as needed, the crate give me so many options to tie in different directions. Let's see how this Mango Smile looks tomorrow, I literally just did this. I am feeding all 8 Mega Crop nutes. So far so good.

Thanks, just tied down Mango Smile [HASHTAG]#2[/HASHTAG]. She is going to be nice too! Pink Panama [HASHTAG]#1[/HASHTAG] is next. Then Hubbabubba Haze [HASHTAG]#1[/HASHTAG]. The rest need to grow a few more days.

No doubt they’re going to be monsters!!!
Subbed up...

Just wondering what your yield is using those small pots on average won't hold you to those numbers lol

Not going to answer the question as I don't know but I've been following slow and his small pot approach for over a year. I started in 5 gallon, then did 2.5 gallon. Now I'm using 1 gallon. For me I'm doing this to reduce how long grows take. If I can get 5 grows done in a year with the smaller pots compared to 3-4 grows with larger pots then at the end of year I'd expect the total yield to be the same maybe. I'm just ballparking some numbers. Lets say its even yield at the end of the year. But with the smaller pots I got to grow more plants and therefore got to try more strains in the year compared to using larger pots. I see other pluses to shorter grow times too but that's the big reason for me.

But I didn't really see a shorter grow time by switching from 5g to 2.5g. I'm hoping I see it with the 1g pots now. Time will tell.

I'm using 2g pots with coco

Yield depends on strain. I can say that my yields are better with 3Quart pots vs 2gal....and they finish sooner. I use Coco. 2gal extends the grow a week for me and often times the yield is worse than 3Quart pots. Especially for the faster strains. Rootbounding will trigger faster flowering, but the yield will be better on the smaller pot. More frequent waterings and smaller pots of Coco works better than large pots for most Autos.

You will notice that the 1 gal pots will finish sooner than the 2.5gal. The extra root space makes a difference on how long mine stay in Veg mode. The extra veg time rarely translates to a better yield for me. It is just wasted time and space.
