New Grower second grow, first time journal. big devil #2 and td's

Here's some more pics of the girls from last day or 2. big devil's are 60 days and td's are 50 days old today.

I tested the ph of the run off last night and as i expected it's quite low. the run off from the plants that are in the light mix soil is around 5.5 and the allmix soil run off is around 6.0. As i said before this can only be a rough guid as i used the marine test kit but at least i now no that my ph is deffinately low. Now all i need to no is how to treat this issue cos im totaly in the dark with this now.

Oops, ive posted few old ones as well, sorry.

Yes, your soil pH is quite low which is what is causing your problems. If you're feeding at 6.5 and getting run off of 5.5 and 6 that means your actual soil pH is much lower, probably around 5. The quickest way to raise it is to add some hydrated lime to your feeds. Hydrated lime is very strong and too much can damage roots, so use caution. Apply at a rate of 1 tablespoon per gallon. Next grow add some dolomite lime to your soil mix. It will raise the pH and buffer the soil, allowing you to stay in the preferred range.

Thanks again man, my water was quite low at 6.0 and when made feed up lowered even more to 5.5. The run off i tested last night was just from watering wihout feed and that was 5.5 as well. I was thinking the run off was low maybe cos the soil still had nutes in. So i should just get some lime and mix with water for now, do i just use it once or once a week?

Apply the hydrated lime one time, give it a few days to become effective, then check the run off again. If it's still low, do it a second time and check again. When you feed nutrients you need to raise the pH up to 6.5 before you feed. To do this you will need some pH Up. Mix your nutrients, test, then add to pH Up. It's very strong so usually only a few drops are needed.

Right thanks again man, feel a lot better knowing what the problem is and that i can now sort it out. Will i stop feeding then until i get the soil right? Sorry for all the questions pal but i'd be in trouble if i couldn't come hear.

No problem. That's why we set up the New Growers forum, to help people like yourself.

No, I wouldn't feed anymore until you get your pH sorted. Since the low pH is locking out the plants ability to up take the nutrients giving them more won't help. Have you seen these charts? They show at what pH levels nutrients are absorbed or locked out. At 5.5 just about everything is unavailable to the plant.

going with those charts should you be aiming for 6.5 when feeding? and around the same for run off?

Ok man, at last i no the way forward. thanks again. yeah have copy of all the charts i got from local grow shop but this is first time ive had to learn more about ph. Anyway cheers again for all your help and i will post back when i have some sort of results.

Yeah think so pal. At 6.5 pretty much all nutrients are available.

Here's some pics. The td's are at day 50. Dutch passion Tony thinks that the tall one is a 100 day pheno. I just cant believe how well things seem to be going. Apart from the ph problem i have at the moment, that i no what to do to solve now so not to worried. Am picking up a bag of hydrated lime today and some ph up in morning and hopefully that will resolve my issue.:peace:
