I germinated my seeds in a paper towel and they all showed their taproot within 48 hours. I then put them into their final pots roughly a quarter inch down. It's been two almost three days now and nothing has sprouted out the surface of the soil. Is there a rough estimate of when they'll show?

Sometimes they can take a few days to pop out. I've had beans with taproots that I planted, days went by, and I thought they were goners. Then BOOM. Sprouted.

What's the average humidity at where they are germinating? Do you have any lights on them yet? Can we see a picture of them? Are you keeping the growing medium moist?

The humidity is right around 50% and I can't get it any higher. I have several lights on them already. Yea I'm using a spray bottle to keep them moist. I flushed the soil an hour before I put them in it. Yea as soon as I get back to them I'll take some pics and upload them on this post. I'm proud of what I've built and as a newbie I'd love to get some of the pros opinions on here.

I'm not a pro by any means but for a reference, I just sprouted my seedling and it took 6 days after the taproot showed to pop above soil.

Yeah, I was getting nervous too. If it doesn't pop up after a week I wouldn't junk it because you never know. I usually let them go until I know for SURE it's junk.

Hello and welcome. Be careful not to over water, the surface will look dry quickly but it is still wet under there. I don't handle the seed when the tap root is showing, I'm afraid I will damage the root when it's planted. I just soak the seeds in plain water until they sink, plant about 1/2in deep in moist soil, and spray twice per day (no circulating fan) and seed pop in 3-4 days. I read somewhere, here I think, that seed needs 70% moisture to pop. So if the seed has absorbed a good amount of water and it has soil that is moist (not wet) it should pop if the temp is ok. Good luck and good karma.

It actually sounds as though I'm under watering. I've only sprayed them once since I've put them in their final pots. The soil is a bit moist when I touch it, hence the reason I haven't sprayed them again.

You can put a clear dome over the seedling with either plastic wrap, a clear solo cup, or a cut off bottom of a soda bottle or the like. Keeps them moist and warm once they sprout, you can take the dome off.
