I would check into that a bit more because my understanding of carbon dating is that you can't really get much more accurate than +/-50 years or so. It's not really designed for pinpoint accuracy of things that are less than 20 years old.

do you have any suggestions andybotwin if so post or inbox im curious to know any way to get verified

My uncle teaches anthropology and they do a lot of testing of old stuff that is found in ancient ruins and such. I'll send him a PM and ask if he has an idea about this.

I recently found some old seeds, somewhere between 5-10 years old. I tried germinating a couple but they must have had mildew spores on them because a blackish dark substance(mould) grew on the paper towel. Next I'm going to try an h2o2/water wash first with a small amount of sugar in the germination water to see if that works. I have fine genetics in my garden as it is but the labels on the seeds are Hawaian star, gods gift,L.A. Afghani. All decent strains from Cali despinceries so I wouldn't mind adding to my gene pool(plus I NEED some male pollen)
A while back I read about redhaired white mummies found in china with perfectly preserved cannabis....wouldn't that be cool if china would hand over a sample with seeds to germinate! Just a thought since I'm thinking about it,here's a link to a Toronto article about the mummies but you can also google it or what ever... http://m.thestar.com/#/article/busi...0yearold_marijuana_found_in_chinese_tomb.html

I always germ with GSE (grapefruit seed extract) in the water. Some people swear by it, others think its bunk, but I know one thing, it sure doesnt hurt my germination success.

Ukfreak, I heard back from my uncle on the carbon dating. This is his response:

"The level of precision needed is unlikely, and the cost would be at least several hundred dollars for preliminary testing. There are labs available via Google that do test seeds, though the illicit nature of the substance could be an issue. Would it not be preferable to grow a plant and document that the seeds are viable and the final product is desirable? Surely that is worth more than spending a significant outlay in an attempt to date it to 18 years ago?"

I have to agree. Growing a plant that shows currently unavailable characteristics would be the best way to prove these are valuable. Just because something is old doesn't mean it's good. There was plenty of shite weed being grown in the 1990s, and I'm sure a lot of it had cool sounding names. :dunno:
