New to growing and getting room ready to go. already have a 400w MH Light which i gather is good for the vegetative growth (must have more blue spectrum), in addition to that i was thinking of a 600w HPS to go in the same 10x10 room for growing autos. The question is would it be good practice if i had the MH on one side of room and HPS on other side without dividing the room at all and just move the plants from the first half of room to the 2nd at the appropriate time or should i look at using two seperate rooms altogether ?

okay, well, i havnt turned either light on yet but hung a regular light with a 1oo wtt flouresaunt and afther first after 2 days of being in soil our first seed has sprouted.

hello dkmall!! See you are gettin things squared away. I would split the room and do 2 pots in and out of veg and flower and that way, you will have a perpetual harvest going every 3 weeks or so. You didn't state what your goal for growing was, but if you give a bit more detail, as far as what you want to achieve, we can better get you there faster and save you some time. If you would be so kind, please head over to the intro section and say hello, if you havn't done so already. Welcome to AFN and if there is anything you need, please feel free to ask.

we were thinking of starting 3 plants every 3 weeks, so that every 3 weeks hopefully would yield a bit over 3 oz if all goes well. we have quit a few seeds to start, all autos. bought 13 as got about as many free. was thinking we could start the seeds right in the grow room with the 400 mh and the 600 hps on the other side of the room. should i start the seedlings outside the room on 24 hour flourasent and move them in after a week of growth or so or just start them and keep them under the 400 MH on 18/6 from the get go and maybe hang a light over them ? how long are these considered a seedling ? lots of questions. appreciate any help

Since you will only be running autos, dividing the room really won't be necessary. Just keep the same time schedule on both lights, 20/4 or 18/6.
If you were running photo sensitive plants where you veg under 18/6, then switch to 12/12 for flowering you would need a divided room. You can put your seedlings under the MH after they break the soil. Just keep the light very high so not to burn them. As they start to grow, lower it to maintain node spacing of about 1/2 to 1".

Thanks for the input, I have the MH about 2 feet over the top of the seedling and it seems to be doing good, as for the seedlings that havn't broken the soil (3 now) i have them in the same room just off to the side with the 100w flourasant bulbs hanging over them. I put the 3 small lights over the 3 pots on the same timer as the 400. do you think the seedlings will pop or should i move them out and put light over it 24 ? the first one that did pop for us was under the 100w 24/0.

So is 1/2 to 1 inch node spacing considered ideal for better results as opposed to say if the node spacing was 3 inches
