New Grower Skatters perpetual DWC/Coco Grow Show

I paid 830 usd for both of them with shipping but I think you may be able to get them for cheaper if you time it right. See the LEDs from China thread.

I think they werejust over 300 each plus 200 or so for international express shipping.

Btw, I didn't answer the rest of your questions, but they can be answered here: http://www.bsled.com/led-grow-light/sp112d-315w.html

The lights are a lot bigger than you might think by looking at the photo. They can cover a 3 x 3 area incredibly well, and probably 4 x 4 with lower intensity.

As for the spectrum, well the benefit of LEDs is that all of the light is designed to be in the PAR (photosynthetically active region) wavelengths. The upshot is you don't waste energy. Seymour Buds results on this forum speak for themselves. I'd say you can get a nice 10 oz. plant going in one DWC bucket if you do everything right. Of course that's not my expectation for the first go round.

I'm doing DWC, but for future grows I've seen incredible results on aeroponics system with up to 60 sites using clones. Basically automates a SOG. The downside is it is probably more plant maintenance, but the upside is that it's probably less res maintenance if you're doing independent DWC buckets (which I am as to not fuck everything up simultaneously lol).

Yeah I have.the plans to eventually build a rdwc but for now i must stick with the single buckets
It will let me expirament with each plant and avoid total crop failure lol. Although to be honest it does seem to be quite tedious maintaining each bucket. I will have 3 more plants on the way, and I can already tell it will be a major pain to deal with that many haha

Hey man, just spent ages reading through your journal, everything looks sweet. I'm gonna be stepping up to DWC for my second grow so will be following this closely - good luck with everything :peace:

Edit: Just a quick question I thought of..you mentioned that you bubble your water for 24 hours to make sure its stable. I did the same thing with my tap water when growing in soil to get rid of the chlorine etc. My question is, when using DWC would it be okay for the water to sit still for 24 hours like I have been doing or should I bubble the water for the 24 hours prior to being used? Thanks! :peace:

PH has been one of my biggest problems and concerns sofar. Before Istarted bubblingthe water, the PH was almost uncontrollable. Iwas having to correct it twice a day. I attempted a res change where the water was left out for 24 hours instead of bubbled, and it certainly was wasbetter than no treatment, but it still seemed to vary more than bubbling it. also stagnant water could potentially provoke bacteria or algae, which scares me. I plan to bubble for the remainder of the grow.

Also, I noticed alot of upward PH drift which was attributed to the silica. For the last 3 days there has been no silica in the res, and the PH has been VERY steady. My white widows PH hasnt budged from 5.8 in 3 days, which feels like nothijg short of a christmas miracle. Im not sure how to move forward, as I did notice the benefits of the silica. Perhaps I will just lower the silica dosage to just 1ml / gallon and see how it works out. PH stability is prettycrucial, my plants have done much better over the last few days as i continue to dial in my setup

Awesome stuff..I'm still in the stages of collecting all the info I need about hydro so it's nice to see someone also giving it a shot for the first time..keep that ph at 5.8 and they'll reward you I'm sure. Will definitely set up a tank to bubble the water for 24 hours before I use it - nice tip! :peace:

Update

Hey guys! Things have been going much better in the garden over this last week. I have been getting things dialed in much more than I had them the first few weeks, and PPMs and PH have been pretty steady. Things always seem to go so slowly becuase I am constantly peeking into the tent obsessive compulsively. I'm glad I am keeping a log, because by comparing the pictures of from 5 days ago to now, the growth has been staggering!

I had germinated 4 more seeds with the paper towel method, but one of them didnt germinate. Oh well, I have three new ladies in the tent. 1 more Critical Jack, and two more White Widows. The taproot had already penetrated through the rockwool, and it was planted in a new DWC bucket.

You will notice that I did a bit of trimming on the damaged critical Jack. Its fan leaves were dying off badly and they were blocking the light, so I made an executive decision and decided to clip off 5 of her leaves. Some of the other leaves are also light green, and I'm wondering if this is just collateral damage from earlier, or if perhaps she is exhibiting signs of nitrogen deficiency. I have continued spraying her with Colloidal Silver for sex reversal. I have noticed her pistil growth has slowed down noticably compared to the other Critical Jack, and it has begun to turn a slight brown color. It appears the treatment is working.

The other Critical Jack has put out some explosive growth over the last few days. I had raised the light to 20" and they have stretched out nicely. She has been throwing off lovely long white pistils, and has finallly begun to exude smell that is a mix of fresh lettuce, pine, and distant undertones of skunk.

The white widow, despite being a week behind the Critical Jacks is doing incredibly well. It has exploded in growth, especially horizontally. She is getting WIDE. Its neat to notice the drastic genetic differences between the Indica (W.W) and Sativa (CJ) between their stature and leaf structure. The Root structure is already MUCH larger on the white widow, which has me excited, but also concerned that I have been fucking up a bit with the Critical Jacks. There has also been significant browning on the Critical Jack roots, which has me worried. I have food grade hydrogen peroxide coming in the mail, so hopefully this isn't pythium and I can keep it at bay... Once I get somebody to hold the net cups up I will upload some root pics.

I built the frame and hung the equipment from my new 10x4 tent. I am going to put the poly film on it today, and hopefully my large 110w air pump will be here today, so the ladies will be moved to the big tent in a day or two
