Grow Mediums Slim's 1st Autopot grow-Think Different

I use a 5 Gal bucket, pour in pebbles, top up with water to cover them. I then PH to around 5 (I PH down to 5 as my water is high and they drift back up).

Let them sit for 12/24 Hrs and check again... Adjust and soak again - repeat.

I usually drain after 48Hrs and the PH is stable at about 5.4...

I use these for the bottom "Air Dome" layer, also to mix in with the soil & perlite I use, I then add a top layer to the pots as soon as the seedlings are big enough.

60/40 coco/perlite, no pebbles etc in the bottom. I've run airdomes and a similar device, neither of which had anything but the grow medium in them. I've done one with also. I've seen no difference one way or the other. Science says, the interface of the mediums is a potenial source of problems. Your results may vary......lol!

And there is no need to spoon feed your plants. Plants take what they need, when they need it. I believe one of the reasons auto pots are so successful is, a continuous flow of nutrients and a consistent ppm level. You'll notice many of the best grows are from people who rum low ppm levels in them. I'm currently running 425-525 ppms and this grow is better than thew last three, and they were good!

Last feeding to this girl was 475ppm: Hawaiian Bud 355ppms, cal/mag 120 ppms.

The clay pebbles are typically just used for the bottom layer (1-2" or covering 2/3 of the airdome max). Although this can also be done with just perlite as well. This bottom layer is required if you're not using the airdomes, if you're using them it's not really necessary especially with coco but I'd still recommend it and think it's beneficial. A 50/50 coco perlite mix works great, for all my previous grows I used a coco/perlite mix... For my current grow I'm trying just straight coco however since I think it will work the same if not better actually. (That grow is stickied in this section if you want to follow along.) As for not using the airdomes on your first grow... well I'm not sure why you'd want to do such a silly thing :p The direct injection of oxygen to the roots is what gives these plants explosive growth, basically 50-100% increase in yields using them.

I do the same as frogster but before I soak my pebbles I put them in a big sieve and rinse them under a hose to get the dust off [emoji106]

Amused ourselves to death

Yep, I forgot to mention that bit.... and yes, I do that... :pighug:

Glad your here for the ride Hemi! I'm really excited to start.. Received the Autopots on Friday and my beans are in a paper towel as I write this!
This is my 1st time with Autopots and 1st time SCROG...so I am just gonna go for it and see what happens!

Sounds like a plan. The worse that can happen is you and everyone following along learns a lot.

haha Thanks 2Stone! I just dropped the germinated beans into their pots!
If anyone has a SCROG lesson or good info on how to build one, please let me know.
There are so much info out there, but this place always has the best knowledge
of any growing site out there...
Thanks everyone!
