OK, I just wanted to test fellow UK growers here at AFN for their reaction and views on this subject.

Having taken over the utility bills in the house after my ex-housemates demise through dementia, I have been constantly bombarded by the supplier (SSE) to upgrade to this format of monitoring for the last few months! No estimated bill's is the main selling point and I've paid some hefty estimated bill's when I've not been around when the 'meter man' has called! In priciple I don't mind the idea but, is it another case of 'Big Brother' watching us all? The UK government seem's determinded to roll this incentive out by 2020.

I know you can always 'Say No!' but, if the majority say yes, where does that leave the rest of us?

The options I have been given by SSE are:

1. Half hourly monitoring (No F in way!)
2. Daily monitoring (seem's excessive)
3. Monthly meter reading (sound's fair?)

Call me paranoid but, even with 2 Telos 0008's consuming 480 watt's for the 18/6 cycle I'm running, maybe I should just say No? Sorry if I offended any Nancy Regan fan's..........lol!

You are going to have to have it anyway, eventually. The government is insisting. If you have been running for a while then your bill won't be any different than before, so monitoring over any period is academic as they can figure out the average use. An electric heater, dryer, dishwasher, kettle, hair straightener etc blow away your lights on watts so don't worry about it.

For what its worth....l have spent a few years in the 'big house' but l have no worries that my 600w hps will even register on the lecky authorities radar- l guess thats your worry?
They will only come for you if your stealing it..is my best guess

hmmm data protection act 1984 non payment or suspected theft is the only time they can pass your details on to others to come knocking.
as long as you pay they dont care.they want you to use more lecky, profits shareholders to keep happy.but its great pr to pretend to save the planet.

Well pointed out AG-you wernt a brief in yer other life???

We are livin in a myth that we are all watched to death but there are no resources to chase pot growers anymore, there will be exceptions to that but look around us(UK) there is no money for nothing these last few years nevermind pot related shennanigans

I have refused so far, i am running two 600 watt lamps for one or two 3 month periods over a year. i reckon that they have far too much to do to monitor slight changes in eletric use BUT maybe a drastic change in use might flag up. So until they make it compulsory am gonna say no.

i see it everyday and i got it wrong its 98 :crying:
so the electric companies have a monitoring system that can spot 12/12,18/6,20/4 patterns of an increase of say 250-2000w they notify the police, they visit with the dog bad news allround.the electric company loses its customer if you in jail, thats not in their business plan.
i knew there was a reason why i ran 19/5 :smoking:
