Live Stoner Chat Smart meters for Electricity and Gas in the UK, Good or Bad idea?

IF they came round and found 4-6 plants (there are no official numbers, maybe you will get away with 8 or 10?) they probably won,t nick you, just a warning. But if you are fiddling the electricity they have to as it now becomes theft. This is london though, maybe out in the sticks it will be different. My mate had 4, they took all the equipment, he wasn,t charged and then about a month later he had to go to the cop shop and he got an official warning.. As somebody said earlier they do not have the manpower, time and money to go after small growers, if they did there would be a huge waiting list for court appearences

I think the only time they will cop you for things like that would be if you had 6 1000watters on for 18 hours a day! small time growers like us for personal use wouldn't even come up on the radar and like @rolling_along said there are plenty of things in your house that use much more watts!
We wouldn't even be worth the polices time (Unless you were being naughty and selling it)
If you want "peace" of mind maybe do what @archie gemmill says and go for an off light cycle! Autos wont mind!
 
I am no electrician, but have been told a ballast leaves digital signatures when starting up. With the right algorithms and the will, the computers are perfectly able to make a list in seconds of any specified use patterns
The sim card smart meter we have here reports everything, or can report everything, down to each individual group. I can see it too with an app.
The only thing that stop this data from being sold or snooped in is data protection laws, there is no choice with the smart meter, it is part of the smartgrid by law and in a few years everybody will have one whether they want or not
The smart meter also make stealing electric easy to locate .
Just saying, we live with it no problem, it keep me on my toes with bringing my consumption down.

By the time they force all people to have smart meters it will be legal to grow here in the UK, i predict it happening in the next 5-10 years. Who would have thought the USA would be where it is today 10 years ago? nobody saw that coming, its more legal in the USA than in the netherlands! where technically it is still illegal.
