Sup guys need some advice on my next grow, As most of you know ive moved into a new house and a differant landlord and my last grows it didnt matter about the smell from my grow, This time it does matter for the first 6mths. My question is would having a realy good fillter make sure there is no smell comming out of my tent?

At the moment ive got a crappy buddy filtter its about 6inch long and doesnt seem to work lmao, should i invest in a better fillter and if smell was still strong in the house how do you guys battle it.. The tent is going to be in the back bedroom and i will be running lights and fans mainly in the day May change my mind on that tho!

Also i am thinking about getting a garden shed to put my tent inside or just convert it for growing as well as growing in the garden next year With some Old mans skunk x Dairy Queen donated by Nelson so these will be smell ass girls ..

For my first new grow i will be growing Some Russian dragons and some Black Dragons kindly donated by Mossy how potent is the smell from these girls??

Any input would be helpful from you guys and gals :peace: Si

there is a difference in quality filters
my branded rhino is 2x as long and the smell is removed far better than the non branded ebay one

make sure you dont visit the shed at night also they are target quite often by thieves looking for bikes

regulating temps is also harder

I've been using a can 2600 filter for my small grow for a year with a 80 Cfm bathroom fan and couldn't smell a thing. Just switched to a bigger set up so my can 33 is untested. Smell is important to me as its the major deal breaker for my fiancé to be okay with growing.

I'd say get you a better filter, rhinos and phresh filters are top notch. I have found even they don't seem to kill the odor completely so i ran my ducting into the top of a 5 gallon bucket filled with soil moist crystals and ona concentrate. Any stink getting past the filter gets pushed into the ona bucket and comes out smelling like fresh linen. Also,i would try and water at nite when all chance of visitors are gone-that almost cooked me in my last place as the filters don't help with smell when plants are outside the cab for watering and the girls stink up the place.

If you have a good filter, and buy one that fits your tents dimensions you should have no smell at all...Unless your tent isnt sealed properly or your leaving it open/frequent visits. rhino is a good filter, so are can, and I use phresh filter which I have run for over a year with no smell problems. Just make sure you dont exceed the dimensions the filter is made for.

You should also put the filter/exhaust fan on the inside of the tent near the top, and have a passive air intake near the bottom of the tent on the other side(a hole). So the fresh air is sucked in from the hole, across the plants, and then sucked up through the filter/fan and exhausted out. You should have no smell issues if you do it like this, and dont buy knock off carbon filters... although im sure some are good, I wouldnt risk it.

Good Luck 2 you!

I use phresh filters and have no odor. Phresh filters (at least the one I have) can be used effectively on either side of the fan.

The reason I mention this is because finding room inside a small tent for a fan and filter can be very challenging. In my case, I ran ducting from the tent to the fan, and from the fan through the filter. I used a passive intake flap which provided for plenty of ventilation while also keeping negative pressure. Now, my little 2'x 4' x 5.5' tent is far easier to work around in.

Thought I'd mention it as another option.

Hey si1984, based off my personal quest for olfactory alert reduction, I would suggest a carbon scrubber + a rated CFM fan for it. I came home and found my entire house, from front to back door to basement, 1200+ sq. foot just REEKED like growing MJ plant. I had only 4 plants in a 4 foot by 4 foot by 7 foot tent downstairs; and they were just stinky mcStinkensteiners. I ordered a 6" carbon scrubber and a 400 CFM 6" inline fan for $140 off Amazon and put the scrubber inside the tent with the fan sucking air out of it, exhausting outside of the tent. There is virtually ZERO smell coming out of the exhaust. You can vent the scrubber inside the tent if you want; which will keep scrubbing the air as it recirculates. The only issue I see with that is if you have an exhaust from your tent; you could be pulling unfiltered air out. I chose to vent mine outside the tent; as the 400 CFM fan is the highest CFM fan in the tent; so it's causing high negative pressure inside the tent, causing the tent walls to suck in a little bit. This is good; as it's drawing more air up and out through the filter/exhaust than it is bringing air in from intake; which means that air and "smell" are going to get pulled towards the filter/exhaust instead of my passive air intake vents on the lower part of my tent. You could also close duct tape close any passive air intakes you have on your tent if you have some sort of active intake, which will reduce openings for smell to leak out of.

I invested in a quart jar of ONA (Odor Neutralizing Agent) Fresh Linen scent and this stuff is AWESOME. It comes in a clear plastic jar; it looks like clear blobs of jelly, and it's a pretty strong smell right out of the jar. I recently moved 3 photo strain plants (a large source of the above said stinkyness) to a SMALLER tent (3 foot by 20" by 5 foot) for flowering, which they nearly completely fill. I don't have my fans yet for that tent; so there's just a small box fan blowing air on them and no real air intake or exhaust of any kind (tomorrow will be different!) But I threw that quart jar of ONA in there, and all sealed up, all I can smell is the snuggles soft smell of fresh linen. And it's not like blasting out of the room either; I can only smell it when I put my nose up to the small opening near the zippers on the tent. ZERO bud smell. The only downside is I can't tell you how long they last; but I'm pretty sold on them so far. I'm also trying one of the ONA time release nebulizer misters; they spray a odor neutralizing mist on a timer.

All in all, I can safely walk down into my laundry room and not smell what's tanning under the two tents 15 feet away. However, when I open the big tent; it's still like a blast of ganja goodness though (not so much in the small tent with the ONA; it's more like a blast of linen.) And if you have to leave your tent open or pull out a plant for some reason; that carbon scrubber isn't going to do anything for smell; so be brief in you visits or the smell will quickly pour out.

I'll second Phoenix Rising; try to do your work at night if possible; limits the amount of outside activity you have to worry about if you do need to smell up the room for a bit.

First of all id like to say thankyou for all your quick replies and i needed them quickly thats what i love about this forum so cheers everyone :smokebuds::bow::bow:
