I'm coming to the end of my grow, well two of the four plants are about to be harvested. I've been looking in to doing a staggered harvest but if I flush my plants before I harvest won't all the leaves start to yellow because it begins to take the nutrients out of the leaves themselves? So if the leaves are dying how can I cut the top colas off but leave the lower buds if the plant has already yellowed? I hope I explained my question well and any input would be appreciated.

Yes you can flush and harvest only the top. Usually only the leaves start to turn yellow not the buds. I have chopped the tops and left the lower parts for all most a week but like Breederj I also lollipop my plants now and feel the results are better which also allows me to harvest the whole thing now.
thanks for the advice, I started my flush(cleanse) yesterday and should harvest the tops in a 4-5 more days. I think I'm gonna try and let the bottoms go another week or so but we'll see how the sugar leaves hold up and if they start to yellow I'll give the rest of em the chop. I think it might be wise to just invest in other small led like 100w to get light to the bottoms so they fatten up just like the tops.
