I was just wondering if anyone could tell me how they come up with 30/70 indica/sativa in strain discriptions? I seen some strains that are the same strain but with different ratios like trainwreck I've seen a 90/10 sativa dom and 70/30 Can anyone explain this to me how does this system work, I know how to read it and what it means but how do they come up with it?

i think its a ply mainly on the seed sites ive seen many give the indica sativa mix for strains with an unknown parent ??? they must have crystal balls  or it just a sheer guess as many of the breeders dont really have a clue how much of a indica sativa mix a plant has many landraces are not even pure sat or indica and i feel this will continue to get more confusing as strains are further crossed an re crossed

Ihave 3 plants going now or I should say did-harvested one about 1 1/2 wks ago- same variey and from te same order. looked like they were very indica dominate and the other sure looks sativa dom to me

Think about cubing strains...

100% Sativa x 100% Indica = 50/50
50/50 Hybrid x 100% Indica = 25/75

Basically you water down the sativa or indica genetics using another strain. If you cross a clone-only female to a male, then cross it back to itself by reversing the chosen offspring and pollinating the clone, you essentially get some % of the parent (because it's represented twice in the lineage) and some percentage of the breeding offspring (because it was crossed back to the parent). This is how you make autos, essentially...find a great strain (WW for example), cross it to an auto, back cross selected F1 to the parent, find a fast/auto pheno and then line breed to that trait, possibly back crossing to the P1 parent again or back to another auto if necessary. That's where the magic comes in...that's also why I hate all these polyhybrids dumped on the market these days lazy people just throw feminized pollen around to other name-brand strains for name recognition.

Awesome answer low and slow thanks for that little lesson ill make sure to copy and paste into my afn notes!
