My new USB microscope arrived this morning and have been having a play, big thanks to Chester for putting me on to it great value, 800x for $24 to be fair the cheaper 500x are enough, but only the 800x is compatible with Windows 8, the 500x is perfect for Windows 7 and below.

This is from the tip of a small sugar leaf, 1.5mm wide by 75mm long, from my current grow.

Took me a while to get the hang of it, seems to work best with the camara right on top of the object and then zoom adjusted with the wheel (like in the pic below) , to use it just install the drivers from the cd, plugin, open the AmCap software that gets installed with the drivers, then choose the camara to use from the devices tab in the program. After that pics and vids etc is all done from AmCap and is self explanitory.

cool.i installed the driver's. then after an hour of frustration I relized it had a len's protector on it ! DOH! I really should read the instruction's lol

Yeah is a great bit of kit, thanks for bringing it to my attention, cant wait to get some bits of bud under it.

Good to know the 500x works on Windows 8 (is just a bit cheaper, and i would say 100x is the max you can use both at without losing focus), just got my info from the seller and alot of the ads for that model said not Win8 compatible, so did not want to take the risk, is just proberly some manufacturers dont have the newer drivers.

Lol yeah i done the same took me about 15 mins to work out that the lines and scratches i could see through the camara was a lense cover, i thought it was scratches on the lense.

By placing the tip of the scope in direct contact w/ the material that the sample is resting on and having everything on a solid surface I generally get 2 focal points ... one near 50x and the other near 500x ... I found the main need was for stability and a third hand to click the button when everything is lined up ...

looking good any supplemental lighting on the side will vastly improve your pic's, even a strong flashlight.
