Interesting! I've heard of growers "stretching out" the veg stage longer by not feeding flowering nutes, maintaining a veg-friendly lighting cycle (20/4 rather than 18/6) or doing other things to promote veg, which is what I'm currently doing to get some height on my plant. So I don't think Week 3 flowering is a hard-and-fast rule with autos...at least not all strains. Some definitely seem more photosensitive than others at least. I've heard that Weeks 3-5 are actually a "pre-flowering" phase that can either be used to veg more or start flowering depending on how you choose to feed/light the plant. But I'm a noob so take that with a pinch of salt.

IDK where you're at now with this plant but hopefully something good came of it! Really hurts having to shitcan an otherwise healthy plant.
