I was on Unleashdagreen earlier and was reading about growing outdoors in swamp tubes. This is a very interesting way of growing and was wondering if anyone here is growing with this method? If so let us know about your setup.
What kind of grow medium your using.

If your making your own swamp tubes or just buying totes.

And your experience with this method what kind of results you got.

Thank you I will be growing with this method from now on it seems to grow some monster outdoor plants.

I grow in the swamp. Got my waders, 2% deet spray and my mosquito hat. I just use two old tires piled on each other. I fill em up with bagged soil and plant my femmed seedling or clone right in it. Usually works and I don't give it much care. Never gets stolen cops and thieves stay out of the swamp. Once a duck made her nest right in with the plant. It usually gets enough of its own water. This works at least 80% of the time. I just go out and reap the rewards.

I would say the tires help draw in heat and hold it also (be great for cool nights). I wonder if you could just put out seeds in the swamp tubes or would they not sprout?
Thanks for the reply Nelson.

The problem is in the swamp there is a lot of ground water in the Spring and after a heavy rain. the tires seem to raise the plant up above the ground water so it doesn't drowned. The tires let the roots go dow2n into the ground so it gets water when everything else is dry. Like so many things it just works as is so I don't have to screw with it much to get good results. The old tire piles I just add more sheep manure on the top in the Spring. Cheap, lazy and relaxed my growing style. Needs no watching over the cops and the thieves don't own waders and mosquito nets and never go in the swamp. Up north we got no poisinous snakes or alligators. Maybe with global warming we will get some soon. I got no idea how well the tires hold the heat at night I am never there in the night but that is a good point.

If your worst problems are vicious ducks, I'd say you're all set Mr. Nelson. ;)

I kind of like ducks and always kept some domestic ones around. They cleamn the bugs of the plants without damaging them. They just kind of rum their bills down the leaves without damaging them.

One year I came home after dark in the fall and I heard this enormous comotion coming from the ducK pen. I couldn't figure out what was going on. In the morning when I went out their were about 40 wild ducks that had moved in with my domestic ducks. Some had black oil in their feathers. I kept them for the Winter feeding them with my domestic ducks.

In the Spring all the wild ones moved down to my swamp to nest. Every day at about 4 o clock I would take out scratch grain to feed the ducks and all the wild ones would fly up from the swamp to get fed as well. They would fly down to me at a very steep angle maybe 45 degrees and at the last second put out their wings as air brakes and fall at my feet. Totally amazing the next Winter they migrated down South and I never saw them again.

They're just waiting to come back to your duck sanctuary. And the ducks were just making charas thats all. ;)

Dang Nelson! I just knew there was a reason I liked you. I am so trying this technique! Any problems with mold in the swamp?

There is a great way to grow in the swamp alley that i read about on UDG using rubbermaid tubes or building your own swamp tubes I will get the link and post it later or just post it myself and quote them.

Some breeds seem to be prone to mold and others don't seem to be affected. I hate mold so the kinds that do I just give up on. Bubblegum for instance great smell, great taste, good stone and good production. Prone to mold so I don't grow it anymore. Great ones that I grow in the swamp that are totally mold resistant as far as I can tell any of the Skunks, Jack Herer,
Dairy Queen are my favorites. The main reason that I grow this bunch in the swamp is that they all stink and I try and keep the smelly ones away from the house. I love smelly pot. They all got that great sniff the bag thing going on. None of them ever mold as well so they wicked suit the swamp.
