Outdoor swamp tubes

I buy molasses at the farm supply store ($8/gal), so I'll check to see if they have oyster shells too. Maybe I'll do a mix of lime and shells, sort of a long / short term thing. I can't remember the last time I saw sheep around here either, but there are lots of dairy farms. Would composted cow patties be similar to sheep poop?

Just about any manure works. I hear a lot of people use bat guano. I can't get that up here but I hear it is really good. Chicken droppings are good also. Somrone in our Breeding Club just plants on the downhill side of his chicken coop. He has the biggest yields of anyone. He once grew a 3 and 1/2 lb plant.

Thanks for the info Nelson. This spring I'll be setting up for my first swamp grow and will be using just Osmocote. Next fall maybe I'll experiment with adding varying amounts of manure to a few of the totes and see what they do. I remember seeing a post somewhere that Cres has filled totes with up to 1/4 or 1/3 Organics with good results. Probably not all manure though, likely some kelp meal and other things in the mix.

I seriously think this might be the beginnings to some sort of competition. One tire, one swamp and as many plants you want to put into it. So long as you don't get caught or topped, you are in it to win it. So much info to be gained. Another art from sort of speak.

I would add that Chicken poop is:hot::firedevil: so use with that in mind

Yeah all manure would be bad I use 2 bags of black earth to every bag of manure.

I did some sprouting and soil tests last year. At 3 weeks, one of my victims was transplanted from her party cup into a 2 gallon pot of ProMix that had 2 cups of chicken manure added to it. It looked wilted for 3 or 4 days and then after about a week and a half, it started to grow. I had actually expected to kill it. 3 weeks after transplanting, I needed room in my cabinet, so I uprooted it and did a postmortem. The roots extended about 1 to 2 inches out of the original party cup ball and into the heavily fertilized soil and were white and thick looking. All the nasty smell had disappeared too.

Bringing up an old thread but crushed oyster shells sounds like a great idea, I'll see if i can find some for my first swamp tube grow. Thanks

Found some and boy are they cheap, 50 cents a pound! How thick do you add them?
