Very new to growing, only 3 weeks into my first grow, but have lots of room and light and not many plants going right now. So im planning on doing 2 buckets. In my heart I wanted to start with hydro but I got intimidated and chose the easy route with soil. Now im finding soil isnt so easy and although hydro may require a bit more accurate science, I have a pretty good understanding of water and chemistry and think ill do better with hydro(and who doesnt want another science project?!?)
So talk to me, ive read through the stickies and a ton of journals and see so many similarities and differences between hempy and DWC buckets my mind is spinning. Is there a reason they arent combined? From reading about hempy grows they all say its a waiting game until the tap root hits the res at the bottom, but why not have the water level adjustable? Start it high and lower it periodically. I would imagine flooded and dry periods would work to feed the plant and keep it searching kinda an equilibrium between the 2 methods? Also is there any reason NOT to put an airstone in the bottom? Would perlite wick water too high if aided by an airstone?
Is hempy a beginners method or more advanced? I understand it is very simple setup usually but often times the easiest things have some crazy science behind them and want to be sure im not overlooking anything crucial. Also if I go DWC in a bin res, can I use a couple aquarium powerheads with venturi attached for bubbles? I find water pumps much more reliable than airpumps and have plenty kicking around but I have no idea the amount of air they draw but it is a TON (water would look like milk from microbubbles even on a relatively small powerhead modded properly)
Maaaaannnn this site is killing me. Serious love/hate for all you getting me so into this hobby. Couple beans in the dirt? Pfft. A few months on this site and i already want to reinvent the wheel.:dunno:
