Mephisto Genetics The elephant in the supersoil room

I’ve used Mephisto’s SS amendment w great results. Gives you a good base that can prevent a lot of problems, esp if you have to have others help out with your garden from time to time. I’ve found it is still important to watch the ladies and feed them additionally as needed, primarily in bloom. But even just running the ammendment with benes has been equally as effective for me in side by sides with other nutrient lines.

The thing that confuses me with the soil amendment is that you just mix it and use it right away? Every amended super soil I’ve ever looked at had to be cooked and that’s why I stayed away from it.

Great, thanks for the input.

I believe it’s because there’s nothing “hot” like manure or fresh compost that needs to be broken down to become plant available.

This is exactly the input I’m looking for, not everyone runs into problems it seems. What % castings did you use? What base media? Did you add perlite or another aeration type thingamabobber? What size pot?

That makes me wanna try SS
I’ll be running the SS at 1.5 concentration with 25% worm castings and perlite. Roots original. I’ll get a journal up soon.

I wonder if this is any good. Maybe I’ll give it a try side by side with the Mephisto blend.

I’ve heard of coast of Maine before. Ingredients look good. I’d love to see your proposed results.

Thanks everyone one for throwing in their 2 cents! Good info

Ok I managed to score a bag of the coast of Maine “super soil” and I’ve got some of the Mephisto mix on the way. I have a couple of seedlings in cups right now on day 3 but they are two different strains... so a side by side with them wouldn’t really be a true fair test. I’m on the fence about it still though. I’ve got a forgotten cookies and a skywalker. I’ve only got space for the 2 plants so it’s either run both in the same medium (both coast of Maine or both Mephisto) and just try the other one next time, or so a side by side anyway even though it’s a different set of genetics.

Hey Guys,

I’d like to fire up (pun intended) a discussion regarding the Mephisto/gbd supersoil mix and any other amended organic type dealios... I’ve used kind soil which is a very similar concept. Had the same issues everyone else here is.

I’ve seen several journals using it with the same issue across the board. Running out of juice mid flower.

Please correct me if I’m wrong, I don’t have the time to dig too far back. I’ve had discussions with several forum members and I’d like to try to consolidate some of the information and experiences people are having in order to correct the issues before we run into them.

Looks like everyone is running out around 40-50 days into their grow. I propose to reamend the soil through top dressing. I’m thinking around day 30-35 assuming the plant is well established. Reapply top dressing every week or 2. Not really sure on quantities or intervals. Hoping some of you can provide feedback.

I’m also not sure what to amend. I’m thinking more supersoil mix that consists of the bottom half of the pot according to the grow guide directions (which I use the optional worm castings), insect frass, high phosphorus guano, and alfalfa meal. I also plan on using recharge (kelp, molasses, humics, fulvics, fungi, bacteria) and mammoth p (bacteria that increases phosphorus uptake). I will be using reverse osmosis water so I may have to supplement with cal mag, I want to look into oyster shell flour or something similar in the future.

So I’m looking for some input here. Bigger pots? More supersoil concentration? Different layering?

Maybe making our own soil is best?

I love the concept of a water only soil. Cannabis may be too demanding to have such convenience. I’m sure if we went overkill and grew autos in 10 gallon pots, the plants would thrive, or would they?

Ramble on...
I’m trying to run a water only grow with some skywalkers and supersoil. I’ve also purchased this in case I need to add any nutes along the way:
Fox Farm Liquid Nutrient Trio Soil Formula - Big Bloom, Grow Big, Tiger Bloom Pint Size (Pack of 3) Amazon product ASIN B00D93NIFY
Subbed!

Ideally, same strain, but you’d have to think the demands of the plant is about the same. It would give a good baseline, at least. Let us know, regardless.

Good choice. While the fox farm trio isn’t 100% organic, it’s very close. I have some old FF nutes in reserve as well. Although I’d prefer not to use anything bottled.
